Default Atom 500 Issues - ESC - IKON or SAT?

Hey all ...

Wondering if someone may be able to assist.

i have a new Atom 500 (been in my build cupboard for 3 years).

Has been modded to FBL and Stretched to 550

Has :
STD ESC
IKON FBL
DSMX Sat x 1 (Spektrum)
DX9s Radio
All was going well until I went to fly it as the tail would not stop wagging even though I have dropped the gain heaps.
Anyway that is not the issue as i will work that out in another episode.

I was trying to connect the Ikon (TRACX) FBL controller to my Laptop and when I connect the batt to the heli (with 2 motor wires disengaged) all the cyclic servos twitch at a high rate ... and now there is no response from the radio at all.
Sat is locked and solid orange light on it. It is like the Ikon is not initializing as the blades normally tweak up and down a number of times to initialize and flash green with red blinking on and off... but now it only red flashes and no set. could this be because the servos are jittering at high speeds and the gyro cannot settle to stabalise to set up?

Am running Align 525m Cyclics and Savox 2285mg tail servos

Not sure whether I should try disconnecting all my servos and see if it will iniitalise the gyro or re ind the radio or something else is wrong?

Help would be greatly appreciated and recieved.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Westy

I would probably disconnect everything and start from scratch. First rebind the sat and make sure that goes off as expected. Then add in the FBL/servos to see if they will initialize properly. Then connect the FBL to the laptop.

Also, I would not fly anything larger than a 450 on one satellite. You can get a pair of new Lemon Diversity sats for $10 each and they work every bit as well as the Spektrums at $35 each. (The Lemons are not clones, where some sats sold as Spektrum are not actually.)

Finally, when you get everything working again, any wag that you can't tune out is most likely mechanical binding somewhere. But you didn't say whether it was fast or slow. A slow wag in a hover would suggest that you need to increase gain a bit rather than dropping it.

Got It all sorted.
Was a glitchy Binding.
Re Bound in DSMX 11ms and all started working again ... but I went through my complete set up with my SOKO and all seems to be working well enough for me to test fly it

Well Got the glithing servo thing sorted ... but have still got tail issues.
No mechanical issues as it as free as can be.

Was trying to put it in the air again today and the tail was whipping around left right left right ...and noticed the motor seems to be hunting (speed changing all the time. So have gone back to the drawing board ... and here I am 5 hours later.... used a Prog 2 card and set it up from top to bottom to confirm all settings are as they should be.

Set my Timing to 18° and PM for 12 so hope that is ok
Will see how it goes from here.

I don't think you mentioned whether you are using a governor, and whether FBL or ESC. I am thinking basic settings would not cause the motor to constantly vary in speed. (And I'm guessing the motor madness is what's causing your tail issues...)

First of all, make sure both governors (from the FBL and from the ESC) are set to OFF.

If unsure, a factory reset is a last resort that will do.

Begin your setup with throttle curves. Tune the tail as needed. When done, you can setup the governor at will.

Cheers!

Solved....

using the Prog 2 Card, I set the ESC up from Scratch .... Funny thing is that when I jumped into the card and looked at all the perameters, I found it set on Lipo 7S... where I had definately set it up (well so I thought) on 6S with the tx.

Hovered and tune the Gyro in a matter of a minute... started at 65-60-55 ... and one land ... set to 650-45-40. ... runs perfect at 40!

So I summise that the ESC wsa seeing a voltage loss one one cell to 0 (Ghost Cell) and it was going into Limp mode (SLOW DOWN).

all working a treat now.
Cheers for all your help team

That's a new one, but interesting to know! I'm guessing the stock ESC does not have an auto detect feature for cell count...

Always fun when you solve a puzzle.
