Default T-REX 600 ESP (E) FB Battery Size

I recently inherited 2-600 ESP (FB). The original owner told me he was running 6S. After a tune up at home and then a trip to the field my fellow pilots helped me determine that this 600 ESP is really running a 10s set up.

Im asking for advice on Physical battery sizes and the max MAH to run under the canopy.

Any other owners out there running 10s on the 600 ESP ? Which combinations of batteries are you running to achieve a 10s set up with weight and size restrictions for the canopy and CG ?

I would first double-check that this is really a 10s setup, because that's kind of unusual. Maybe it is a 6s setup for rather low head speed, and your fellow pilots like screaming high head speeds.
What motor kV, pinion and main gear do you have?

The Motor.

Default Neu 1515/2Y/F Motor
It's a 11 tooth Pinion.
Have to look at the main gear.

That's an 1100kV motor. If you have the 118t main gear that looks like a 6s or probably 8s setup with that 11t pinion. With the 170t main gear on the other hand 10s does sound about right.

If you use standard 600 esp gear (170T) and 6s your headspeed is around 1400 at 6s and 2200 at 10s. I like the 1400 rpm, great for sportflying and you get good fly times.

If your main gear is 170T and you uprate the pinion to between 15T-17T you will achieve headspeeds of up to 2100 governed on 6S. Is your ESC an HV type though.

Hmm, voltage isn't the issue really? Seems like you are asking for the size or weight needed to hit proper cog? Back in the age old olden days when we started modding fb helis, hey I still own a few!
But they are now on 12s and modded, probably still to date my favorite size to fly btw. Big enough to see and large enough to do everything great, yet small enough to be incredibly nimble.
What we used to do is to weigh out heavy metal stuff on scales and then strap it down into the battery tray, then check cog by hanging the heli off on its side by holding it by the main blade. Then change the weights as needed till it balances correctly.
Warning! No two Esp's seem to weigh out the same, as the components are always different from model to model. Change motors, servos, ect, it all effects cog. I have built alot of these through the years, most the guys at my old club fly them still.

My own 12s version sports two 3300 65c 12s packs up front. My two friends sport diff equipment on their Esp's. One uses a 6s 5000 with a large flight pack strapped on the front to get the weight right. The other (tt equipped still) uses a 5500 6s pack.

Usually the battery manufacturers post up size and weight numbers for all their battery sizes. I choose what I am going to use by this method. I know what it is going to take to hit my cog before I select my batteries. Asking a guy that simply owns another Esp and doing what his heli requires is sketchy bro. LMH

I had a 600ESP running 10S.
I ran 3300 and 4000 mAh packs which worked fine.

Hi Guys.

Thanks for all the help and information.
I have decided to uprade the pinion to 17T. This should get me to 2200 head spear with a 6s set up. (If my math is correct)
The question remaining is will the 6s set up on the Older Kotornik 55am esc be too taxing ?

6s 5000Mah 17T pinion and 180 main gear 1100 KV motor

Really Trying to figure out the relationship between pinion choice esc and head speed desired for safe effective flight

My 6S combo flies with this setup, flight times 5:30 to 6:30 mins, you do need 40C upwards packs if you want them to last.

I run governed max 1950, 2050, 2150 respectively with sufficient headroom.
