Tore into my 105 today. Top of the piston looked perfect and was a really nice color and the ring is still really black but, sure enough, the pin is gone. Glad I decided to go ahead and order a new one.

I forgot to update my last experience. the last time I posted here I was testing that new piston from OS with the solid pin. I have not had a failure since I started flying these new pistons. thanks to Nick Maxwell for helping me get this issue brought to light and being the middle man for the customer and OS!!!

Half of the pin on my Piston has gone too, I have ordered a new one from RC japan so hope it comes with the solid pin . although it is annoying as its the second piston and they are not a cheap engine.

Talked to RCJapan about the solid pin vs rolled steel and here's the email exchange I got after I told them I only want to order if they can ensure I will receive a solid pin piston. I told them the new design has a solid steel pin.

After this I sent them a photo of each as proof and I got this back

At last an answer that makes sense. But until the prototype is guaranteed I will be waiting lol

Man this is an old thread.. I have hundreds of flights on my piston, ordered from rcjapan. In fact i've replaced bearings and ring, keeping the same piston.. you're probably safe.

FYI, os105hzr on 15% cool power, with an additional 2oz of Sig techniplate per gallon
