Default Tail not locked in

My tail is not locked in. Doing maneuvers the tail moves around. I.e. vertical tic tocs the tail moves left it right. If I up tail gain it wags. Any settings I can change to help tail hold?
Mechanically it's smooth.

Hey Diggiz,

I'm sure we can figure this out, some questions first. Are you running a governor, 3digi or other? Do you use precomp? Does you 550 have the old tail or the new upgrades tail?

Hey Can
No govs yet. Waiting on new packs before setting that up.
Precomp? Umm not sure lol Where would I find that out.
Tail I think is the new tail maybe. Its the model before the align Dom.

Hey Diggiz,

Does your tail hold during hard pitch pumps?

If not, I would look into the "precomp",
The precomp settings can be found under the tail tab. There are called Torque compensation their are three types from collective, from aileron, and from elevator.
What I would recommend is doing hard pitch pumps and raising the from collective torque compensation until you stop seeing wandering.
You might also have to mess with tail gain during that process if you get big tail kick outs.

If it holds during hard pitch pumps, I would look at raising tail D-gain, as described in the user guide version 1.3.1 has a great tuning guide.

Hi Diggiz,
please check the directions of the control inputs on the transmitter tab.

If there is something wrong, some of the optimizations for tail and swash (torque compensation for example) may work into the wrong direction and cause bad performance.

Look for collective precomp and raise it. Only other thing I can think of is an excessive amount of collective pitch.

I always set the ball link distance from center so that the servo arm reaches about 45 degrees at the endpoints. On helis that have a built in mechanical offset at center in the tail mechanics this means you need to bias the arm a few degrees off center in order to equalize the endpoints. You can use a trim flight or manual adjustment of the rudder trim value (on the FBL not the radio) to tell it where the neutral point is.

On Gaui helis it's simpler because they have symmetrical tail mechanics. (the tail pitch of at zero degrees when the bellcrank arm is centered). In that case you just center everything check that the servo arm is 45 degrees at the endpoints and do the trim flight or manually adjust to teach the FBL where the neutral hover is.

I've been having the same tic-toc issue with my 600 heli. Collective precomp helped, but adding some elevator precomp as well fixed it. Never had a problem with my small helis, but the big ones need a good dose of precomp.
