Default uBrain2 in 180cfx, is it worth it?

I have a uBrain2 in my Oxy2, and I love the complete control over set up that it provides. I especially like the blue tooth module. I started thinking that it'd be cool to put one in the 180CFX, too.

But will the uBrain2 really have much of an impact on the 180's flight envelop as compared to the stock fbl? I just can't decide if it's worth the expense.

Personally, as you have the Oxy 2, I'd say no. The 180 is definately better with the uBrain than stock (I have the uBrain1 on mine) but it's still nowhere near as good as the Oxy. It's still fun and if you don't have an alternative, I'd say it was worth it but it won't make it fly like the Oxy.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your advice. Of course, the 180 is never going to fly as well as the Oxy2. But the 180, somehow, seems to "fit" in my yard a bit more comfortably than the Oxy2. I'm sure I could get eventually get more comfortable with the Oxy2, but I still have this strange love affair with the 180s, which led me to ponder a uBrain2 upgrade.

I'm using a uBrain on one and a spartan on the other. Both way better once fine tuned than the ar6335

Over the 2 I prefer the spartan

Thanks, everyone, for your advice. As it happens, I found a good deal on a uBrain in the classies. So, I look forward to playing around with installing the uBrain in my 180 and tweaking the settings.

Thanks again, everyone, for your advice.

A few days ago, I installed the MSH micro-Brain into my 180cfx. After going through all the set up steps, the 180 is now strangely smooth and stable, and the tail is very solid (so long as the gain isn't too high, like not greater than 15%, I got a wag of death at 20%).

In a way, I suppose I cheated on setting up this micro-Brain--I just loaded the settings file that I saved from my Oxy2. After a little bit of servo centering and swash leveling, it works just great!

I am curious, with the ubrain how does the 180 measure up to the Oxy 2 with the same ubrain? Hard to REALLY compare unless the same FBL is used....

Well, I think the micro-Brain certainly optimizes the 180cfx, and makes it a lot more enjoyable to fly. But the Oxy2 is a much more stable, precise, and high performance helicopter than the 180.

I have an Oxy2, and I love it, but I still fly the 180 because it fits so well in my front driveway. The Oxy2 performs so well that it can get away or too close much more quickly than the 180.

Ok, thank you for that. I am hoping to pick up an Oxy 2 some day, most likely the plastic version.

.... I kind of wish that an Oxy 1 (or 1.5) would be released some day for those tighter areas, but I think that that is wishful thinking

If that were to happen I really think that they would sell VERY well. A well-built back-yard heli would be a real winner. In the mean time the 180 will have to do.
