Default Unboxing

The kit is very well put together with numbered bags to go along with the instructions! There is a comprehensive list of instructions that can be downloaded to your computer or you can print a hard copy like I did. I put the complete instruction set in a binder for ease of reference!

Default Frame assembly

Twinn Rexx V2

The following is my critique of the assembly instructions of the Twinn Trexx V2 produced by Tech Model Products.

Let me start by mentioning a few caveats. First this is not a model that someone should consider if they have no experience with model helicopters. This is for intermediate and above experience levels. This should not be considered a negative but is simply a result of the flexibility that this kit provides when choosing rotor heads, electronics, etc. Secondly, some of my critical comments may be a bit petty, but the intent is to provide input to improve the ease of assembly in the future as I believe this kit has great potential.

Overall the assembly of the main mechanics was accomplished with little difficulty. Assembly is best accomplished by utilizing the Assembly Instructions in combination with the Assembly Figures (drawings). The instructions are laid out in a logical approach that requires very minimal disassembly of previously completed sections. Overall the Assembly Figures are well drawn and provide the clarity required to resolve orientation questions. One minor exception was the main gear assembly. The addition of an exploded view of the main gear assembly would be helpful. This would streamline the orientation of all of the parts in that assembly. One way to add additional clarification to the drawings overall would be to include a reference to each individual hardware size. A symbol indicating the type of adhesive (CA, Loctite, etc) placed appropriately would also be beneficial.

The bolts, screws, and nuts are packaged in multiple small plastic bags. It was unclear which bag to use for each assembly section. I did not see a correlation between the bags and the assembly steps. Because there are only a few different sizes of hardware utilized, the solution for me was to simply use the hardware size referenced in the instructions irrespective of the bag where you got the part. My recommendation would be to either have a direct correlation between each specific step and the associated hardware, or to simply package all like parts together to avoid confusion.

All parts seemed to be of high quality and all parts fit together properly. I would however recommend a different screw on the anti-rotation bracket. The small M2x6 Button Head screws have such a small hex area that disassembly may be problematic especially when you consider that they are set in place with CA.

In conclusion the mechanics overall were a pleasure to assemble and I am looking forward to acquiring the balance of the items required to complete the final assembly.
