Default Why no 13t pinion? Xnova 2618-1360

Personally I don't need more than 3,000 rpm governed on this thing. The smallest pinion that does the job is always a good idea, and the Xnova 2618-1360 is one of the two recommended motors for the P380. I like light helis, so that's the motor I'm running. A 13t would be -PERFECT-. I'm not complaining that this heli has a limited gearing range or anything, but 3,000 RPM is by no means 'low headspeed,' and the 2618-1360 is apparently the motor this thing was designed around. Not having a 13t pinion seems like a conspicuous omission. I'm guessing it wouldn't be too hard to design, and a lot of people would appreciate being able to buy one. Any chance from MSH? Does anyone have the ability to CNC one, or can anyone recommend a compatible alternative?

Might be a limitation of mechanical design. I know with the 21t and 890kv motor I had to shave a little off landing gear or the motor can would hit. So 21 is the smallest you can run without the idler pulley. I imagine there is a minimum also with the idler installed. I donít know this for sure but could be a possibility.

I found a workaround for the pinion and belt sizing for my 925kV motor, as I too wanted a smaller pinion and had no more room. In all fairness, my setup works fine with the stock 21T, but 20T looks like a better fit for my desired HS range so I decided to try it.

I did a little research on Gates belts, and found that there is an identical model exactly 6 teeth shorter than the stock (286T is stock, 280 is what I bought). A few clicks, bucks, days and here it is. Easily swapped out, it put my motor right in the middle of the adjustment range.

Good info on the belt; thank you. The hurdle I have is finding a 13t 3.5mm pinion for the higher KV motor. With the idler pulley I'm actually right in the middle of the adjustment range of the motor with the 14t pinion, so going to a 13t wouldn't be a problem at all for the stock belt.

I just noticed that Lynx makes a solid 13t pinion for the Mini Protos. Their part number is LX1283. It doesn't say what the shaft diameter is, though. I also don't know if the belt on the Mini Protos is compatible with the belt on the P380. I wonder if that Lynx pinion would work? Anyone have one sitting around - is it for a 3.5mm shaft? I contacted Lynx to see if they know if it's compatible, and asked them to make a 13t pinion for the P380 if it isn't!

(It looks like the Mini Protos has a thinner belt. Might not work.)
