I've been going through this thread to figure out how to best setup/equip an OXY 2. I've been out of the hobby for a few years and looking to get back into it. I was comfortable with sport flying a few years ago but would like to learn inverted flight.

Any suggestions on getting the OXY 2 190mm vs the OXY2 Stretch 210mm? Also I see that everyone equips these slightly differently. I just bought a DX8 transmitter. If someone could comment on the most user friendly combo of FBL, receiver/sat, motor & ESC that would be greatly appreciated.

I'm reading a lot about telemetry on here but don't have any experience with it. Is this something that would be beneficial to incorporate in my new build?

Welcome back to the hobby!

Lemmi try and give my few cents.

1) "learn inverted flight" : it's always great to have a SIM. This will allow you to learn fast without the "fear factor". It will save you a lot of dough in the long run.. and of course learn faster. I recommend AccuRC.

2) "Oxy2 190 vs 210" : stretching it will give you more options performance wise (it's just too long enumerate them here). Usually I'd advice to keep it simple and stay with the basics (190mm). BUUUT, for Oxy2 I recommend going straight to the stretch because overall the cost is not that far out between the two while giving you significant performance benefits. So I vote for going straight to 210.

3) "user friendly combo of FBL, receiver/sat, motor & ESC that would be greatly appreciated." : I would recommend the uSpirit, Orange sat, 1911 motor. These, in my opinion are the best bang for the buck while giving you room to grow.
The uSpirit has the coaxial, stabilization and rescue features that will definitely help a learner up to the smacker. Relatively cheap too with great support. Personally saved me a lot and my 8 year old son has been using the coaxial mode with ease.
ESC: Talon 25 or the Hobbywing 25. Up to you.

4) "Telemetry" I won't personally recommend this at the very start for many reasons but my third Oxy2 has one based off the OpenTX protocol. For me it's a great feature but a bit complicated with not much benefit in terms of going further the flying skills. It's just data that may or may not help you out. Since you said user friendly above; it is not. Perhaps once you are neck deep with the the hobby again you might think of trying telemetry just to mix things up.

Just ask away coz we got so many great and knowledgeable dudes here in the sub-forum. I bet they will eventually chip in.

Welcome back again.

Bonus: Get the K110 heli. It will give you a lot of fan and save you a lot of grief. Trust me. https://www.helifreak.com/forumdisplay.php?f=463

I would echo most of above. Of the 3 I have, I think my favorite is a FE 210 with the 1911 motor that I run at pretty low headspeed of 3300 that is so smooth and relaxed in flight. I do own the Sport version that is also stretch, but I haven't gotten much time on it yet. Initially, it is pretty sweet though.

For FBL you also have uBrain/Ikon2 that can also give you telemetry and integration if used with the 4649t rcvr. Easy to setup the basic flight operations, rescue, etc...

Big fan of 4649T/uBrain2 combo here.

Even without mAh counter, I stop flights at verbal readout of 10.8V flight pack voltage to consistently get 11.1-11.2V disconnected, which works out to ~75% consumption, or ~8min on a 1000mAh pack in a porky 390g stretch at 3600rpm, admittedly flown quite mildly.

Hi All,

I plan to upgrade my motor from 1611 to 1911. I am insisting on 190mm (FE version) at this moment. I like it as "small" as possible. I will save stretch for later probably but not now.

So my question: What pinion gear should I get for 190mm blade? (it's FE with heavy things: SPM4649T with HW rpm sensor, 2 mini1.5 to JR plug attached, etc..) Is 17, 18T package too big? I'm running 4700-5400rpm with my 1611. Theoretically 17T 3600KV should produce similar headspeed with 11T 5500KV. Am I doing correct math?

I expect longer run time with improved feel with 1911. Right now it feels heavy. Most of the time I fly at 4900rpm.

Thanks.

I'm getting some final purchases put together for my 215 and am wondering if I could get some thoughts on this:

uSpirit FBL
Talon 25 ESC
FrSky R-XSR RX

I can integrate the FBL and RX with OpenTX with just a cable, and the CC Talon also supports telemetry, though I think it requires a special cable to make it work.

Thanks!
