Default Troubleshooting suggestions?

Hi All,

Well, I'm having trouble with my 380 - I just can't get it dialed in and would sure like some suggestions to help figure it out. I know it's a great heli, but I'm just not getting through the tunnel this time.

Config:

Mini vbar 6.0
YGE 60LV
KDE 500XF-925
MKS ds95 servos, BK 5005

Symptoms:

It's very wobbly around center, and skittish. Changing head gain does not seem to help, and it flies like it has very little gain. It veers quite off badly in piros, and it feels "challenging" to even hover calmly in one place. My VBar log is full of excessive and extreme vibration messages from what can only be described as gentle setup flights.

My Theories:

- Motor is too big and vibrates too much for the airframe. On the bench I saw no problem vibrations in the analyzer, but I will test this more carefully. I'd like to prove that this is really the problem before throwing in more money. The XNova that I would buy appears to still be sold out everywhere.

- VBar mini touches the A/F in too many places, and cannot process vibrations properly. It touches the bottom tray (attached with 2 layers VHB), and also the side frames behind the motor. I put a little bit of VHB between the side frames and the FBL, but that did nothing. Some of the wires are under the tail servo, and they may be pressuring the FBL as well. I have not figured out a way to install Mini VBar without all of this frame contact, but I'm not quite ready to pop for another Neo yet.

- Had a minor crash and bent something that I haven't detected yet. Vib analyzer should help here too. I WISH it had showed me more amplitude during the quick check I did the other night, but it looked great spooled up without blades.

History is that all of this gear worked great together in my G380 for the last 2 years. Granted the motor and FBL had more room in that heli, but I suspect that all of the electronics are just fine. They have not been given any reason to crap out, but I know that isn't always required.

I have fought with a number of helis over the years, but this one is getting the best of me. I can tell that it's going to be incredible, but it isn't quite yet.

So, how would you approach this?

Thanks!

MiniV uses a very old sensor that’s not tolerant to vibration. If you think it’s good mechanically. Tracking ok. Try swapping the FBL with something modern to see.

Just from reading your post I would put my money on the Mini V wiring/installation issues you described. Your FBL unit is not isolated from the airframe transferring vibration to it.

Check your swashplate if it got separated thus having a vertical play.

If this is the issue don’t get in the hassle to fix it as it will get separated again after a few flights. Just order a new one.

Thanks guys. Yes, it flies just like the FBL is overwhelmed by vibes. Like my 3G used to. I think this miniV is that old - the yellow Gaui version.

Tracking is perfect, the tail looks fine except for an occasional slow wag, and the tail fin looks still in hover. I don't think there are any serious mechanical problems, and it isn't showing much in the way of signs of vibration.

I'll check the swash, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

Guess it's time to go Neo shopping after all. Merry Christmas!

Thank again to all of you!

Neo is a tight fit. I don’t think the vlink version will fit without antenna rubbing on motor can. I used a non vlink with a vlink receiver but have to drop the bottom plate to access the usb for firmware updates.

Did you get the brain with the airframe? It flies great with it and I'm a vbar fanboy for sure.
Just because it fits well in the space if you have it may be worth a go.

Thanks. Good to know.

I took mine out, and I think I can mount it a little better than it was. One more try...

I didn't. I've heard nothing but good about the brain, but as a v control owner I don't think I have that option right now.

I actually found that my VHB was buggered up a little bit and my unit may not have been sitting optimally. I'll try it again this weekend.

If I buy a Neo I will just use one of my satellites.

Thanks for the input everybody.

Can you post a pic how yours is mounted. Are you using a mini or micro tail servo.

The micro tail servo may just be the difference. I measured last night, and with a mini servo a non-vlink would fit but it would be pretty tight.

I’ve thought the micro would help. That’s why I’m limited I think it’s cause I’m running a mini, makes the fbl more towards the motor

Thanks for the pics. I might just have to buy a ds95i to get rid of the sat.

Well, I made the move to micro tail and VLink Neo.

I wasn't sure what to expect from Neo defaults, but it came off the bench ready to play - flies infinitely better than in prior configuration. I added some expo and that was all it needed for today. Flat piros, snappy but stable. Sweet!

Thanks again guys.
