Question Manual warning explanation

Hi,

I recently ordered a PL8T and while waiting for it to arrive I was going through the manual.

One thing I'm having difficulties with is this:

CAUTION: ALWAYS INTERCONNECT THE POWER CONNECTIONS FIRST BEFORE APPLYING POWER TO ANY OF THE POWERLAB TOUCH OR EXTERNAL CELLPRO POWERLAB CHARGERS.
Failure to comply with the above may result in damage to the PowerLab Touch and/or the external CellPro PowerLabs which would not be covered under warranty.

This is of interest to me because I have a PL6 that I may need to use while using the PL8T. So while the PL8T is working I may need to connect the PL6 to the same power supply (sometimes a car battery and sometimes a 24V PSU) through a free EC5 connector (Y split).

Will this be a problem and if so why? There will be no other connections between the chargers so why would connecting another charger to the same PSU or Battery while the other one is working would be a problem?

Thanks in advance

I assume that this is a precaution to be safe from sparks.
Maybe it would be possible to add some anti spark plugs to your wiring to protect your PL6.

I don't know if that's it. Connecting a single powerlab generates sparks and that doesn't damage it.

I have received the answer to the OP from Tim. Here it goes:

This should not be a problem. So long as you have established power to the PL6 prior to connecting any cables between the PL6 data port and the BUMP Controller's PL PORT 3 or 4. What you need to avoid is having the data ports hooked up and then connecting the positive input power wire. Without a common ground on the power buss between all components, current might flow through the BUMP Controller through the PL port and into the PL6. In some cases, if the input supply voltage is high (like 48VDC), this situation can damage the uC in the PL6 via high voltage on the data port. This cannot happen if common ground is established between all components prior to connecting up the data ports. Also, this is a normal precaution with any electronic devices. It is generally a good idea to establish ground connections prior to establishing positive or signal connections. Hope you understand.
