Default Atom 500 FBL Rotor Heads

HI Folks,
Any ideas on substitute FBL rotor heads for the Atom 500 and 550? Original and Tracx parts are getting difficult (and expensive) to come by, and I like flying my stretched 500. Plus, I have a ton of spares.

No idea regarding a substitute. You might want to check out the Compass Shop if if they still have the original blade grips available:

http://www.shop-compassmodel.com/Compass-Atom_1

I crashed my Atom 500 a couple of weeks ago and damaged the blade grips and blade grip arms among other things. I decided not to repair it and just use the surviving parts are spare for my Atom stretch.

My Atoms have served me well but when I crash the stretch I will be moving on to another model... likely the eXo.

The gaui X4 / X4-ii heads should probably fit on the atom. I haven't tired it myself though.

I would look for used Atoms or Atom parts.

I think any other brand of head is going to make it fly like that other brand-not like the old Atom that we all know and love.

I agree, IF there were sufficient used atoms, or parts, I would probably go that way........However, there doesn't appear to be, and just 2 new grips and head are about $120 + shipping from compass.
I just bought a new complete X4II head and shaft delivered to my door for $55. Fit it to my Atom 500, and it looks to me that all that is necessary for it to fit is to enlarge the bolt hole slightly in the atom shaft. I have a lot of Atom spares so I want to keep the bird in the air.
Just my 2 cents.

lcc014 and cyclo like this.

Just out of curiosity, can the Exo rotorhead fit in the Atom?

Cheers!

Bob,

Where did you get the X4II head with shaft for $55 ? I could not find anywhere near this price via Google.

Thanks,

I just googled it and followed the ebay hit.......
Just checked again, looks like its $99+ shipping now.... :-(
Guess I made a hot buy.....still, at $100, its less for a complete a head than compass parts, and it will keep my atom in the air....

Yes, typical price is about $85 + shipping. Please let us know how it goes with Gaui X4 II head.

Well......I did a test fit on the Gaui head. It WILL work, but requires a slightly larger hole in the main shaft, and longer servo links and head links (which I don't have, so didn't mount). Also, while it will work, to get the head mounted swash driver links level requires the swash to be much higher (and MAY interfere with the anti-rotation pin. The swash can be lower, but the swash driver links will then be somewhat sub-optimal.......
