Default Converting to X5 V2

thinking of converting one of my X5 to V2 550mm blades. was wondering if i can keep my formula head rather than changing to the longer Rotor Yoke Set?

i kinda like the formula head the way it is, just not sure if the frame dimension on V2 are different and would affect the heli adversely or make it susceptible to blade strikes???

inputs are appreciated

you only need to install the stretch kit to run 550's. its a boom, tt, control rod..
its like 20 bucks.

I *think* you need the V2 head to run the 550s stretched. I have the V2 and run 553s on it with the stretch kit, and the clearance is enough, but the tail and main blades swing awfully close.

My suspicion is that the formula head, since its lower, would increase your risk of tail blade strike.

Looking at mine, I wouldn't run the formula head with the 550s and stretch. Unless someone else chimes in and says it works, I personally wouldn't advise it.

I will say the V2 head flies really nice as a 550!

thanks Mike

the stretch kit was available for the X5 formula , however i hear what you are saying. this is exactly my concern as the manufacturer (Gaui) chose to go with a taller yok for the V2. maybe there is a concern with the stretch????
i fly my X5 formula with 516-520 mm blades and i fly them hard, no issues. 550mm does pose a different environment

the stretch kit is made for the x5 to run 550's..im using it on one of my formulas. if you have any doubts, call anythingheli.com.. dave is great.
I'm running 86mm tails..
read the link I posted.. ALL GAUI X5's can run up to 560mm blades with stretch kit..

I’ve been running stretch with formula head for about a year. No issues and I fly it hard.

It does not matter what frames are used, the main shaft and tail shaft are in the same EXACT spot, no matter what frames are used. So blade length will be the same, as long as all other things like what head is used are equal. If you look at the manual for any of the X5 versions, you will notice that everything is in the same place as far as gears, shafts, boom, etc.. So the only significant difference is the battery placement between the original/V1 and V2, this is due to the side frames.

As for the new longer boom option:
The new longer boom is 40mm longer than stock, so you should be able to run 40mm longer blades(if the same length tails are used). If memory serves, the X5 formula can run up to 530mm blades with 82mm tails out of the box in stock form with out issue(612mm total Tails and Mains). So theoretically you could run 560mm mains with 92mm tails with the longer boom as this would be a 40mm addition "652mm total".

Or I guess you could run 570mm mains with 82mm tails(tail might not hold well though with this short of tails with 570 mains), as long as your not using more than 652mm total (main and tail length) you should be safe, hope this makes sense. So with the formula I would not worry about 560's with 92 tails.

My thoughts on the Head (Low vs High)

IMHO, I feel the lower formula head handles better when it comes to harder 3D, and seems to have a more predictable feel(to me), but that is just my opinion, the taller head might feel better to some pilots, and the lower head for others, I guess it depends on flight style, ect... I think it will come down to personal preference more than one head being better than the other.

Hope this info helps.

Dave
