Default Stupid Simple Things That Are Really Difficult...

Last fall I realized I can't do much on the sim with the heli in the gymnasium background. Turns out I could not fly the helicopter at the ends of the gym. I realized I could not do this simple move.

With helicopter 90 degrees in the middle of the gym. Move forward to one end of the gym. Then move backward to the other end of the gym.

Essentially forcing myself to hover at 90 degrees and 45 degrees at each end of the gym.

I spent a couple months last fall working on that. It seemed so simple but I could not do it.

My latest simple thing that I can't do well is to hover 90-degrees upside down and move straight back 50 or 100 ft on the sim and then move for ward to the original location.

It's so true. Without putting constraints on the flight area or tightness to a pattern it's quite difficult to know how well one truly is in control.

I've been working on straight lines which show up more deficient as the area is larger. It's not only keeping it straight but the direction chosen being correct and adjusting the direction once it becomes obvious the heli is off course.

Seems most of the instructional videos deal with circular movements. I notice the pros frequently flying back and forth across the flying line, so I have been practicing linear exercises.

My practice program is starting with just going back and forth up and down the flight line tail-in, then tail out then left side, right side, then the whole thing up side down. Then rainbows from one end to the other and finally tic-tocs right in front from a side view. Then tic-tocs rotating around front-back-side, etc.

Last Tuesday I could hardly do forward flight. I had to struggle with thinking about every stick move. It was like my brain broke. I kept feeding uncoordinated stick movement's as if I was flying inverted or reverse. After 4 packs I stopped. A few OS moments and figured maybe my brain was too tired or something. No idea. I simply couldn't fly! It was odd.

Look up the finless challenges. Simply hovering and rotating in 1 spot is a great test. On the page below is my attempt at two of the challenges:
