Auto Stabilizor for Blade 400
Hey all, I have had a Blade 400 for quite a few years now but put it away due to not getting far with it. Spent many an hour setting up and testing and according to a regular flier it is set up perfect (he flew and landed no probs). However I have never been able to progress past basic hovering. I have flown RC Planes for near 40 years and am a certified drone pilot so the theory is nothing new to me just cant get the hang of the Blade400!!
Have been looking at it sadly hanging on the wall and thinking about getting back into it again and wondering if there are any worthwhile stabilisors to look at. Googling I get the FMA Copilot and Flymentor but not really any posts in the last 7 or so years. Any recommendations?

Not sure if they make a "stabiliizer" for a flybar system. One could convert to a flybarless system, but I wouldn't think it would be worth your trouble ($). While one could purchase a "Beast X flybarless receiver with a optional bail out system, it would be just as cheap to buy a whole unit that already has the full system installed.
The 400 is definitely a heli that needs to be told what to do at all time. I fly several Blade flybar heli's, the SR, 400 500 3D, almost daily. Have one flybarless (600 Blade), which is the easiest to fly. In my quest to fly heli's (some 8 years ago), I found that flying around me in a no wind day was my best chance to success. Good luck to you! |

Thanks for that. Yeah, I have found out the hard way that the 400 is handful! I have bit the bullet and will install a Flymentor 3 axis gyro system, they seem to get the nod 5+ years ago and nothing new seems to have eventuated. Has an over ride so once confident I can flick it back to normal, if I get in the poo a simple flick back on will bring it back to level stationary (or close to it) hover.

I'd be interested to hear how this works out for you SeaComms. I've been a bit timid flying mine after crashing it. I just don't seem to have the reflexes to keep up with it other than hovering.

I believe the DJI Naza-H can also work with a flybar heli. There are also some ways to convert the 400 over to flybarless on the cheap if you want to reduce post crash frustration, flybars are a PITA to fix compared to FBL.
Another suggestion if you haven't already, get a simulator. Heli-X is free to try and has excellent tutorial modes. |

You can fly the B400 with a FBL and leave the flybar on. I have one that way. Just use a VBar ( or equivalent ) BTW I have seven old B400's
Just dial in only a low percent of gyro or it will fight with the flybar and induce wobbling. It's VERY stable without actually being a stability mode. |

The thread listed below is fairly detailed in the parts required and how to. I followed it except for the copterX and purchased the AR7200bx instead. With the AR7200bx you can then use the Spektrum manuals for the 450x to do your setups etrc.
I now have 3 converted, 2 that were 400's and a 450 3D. The tarot head with the AR7200bx and the smaller/lighter old 400 frame with good servos is very smooth and responsive. It's a far better heli than I am a pilot. www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=404096 |

I'm really late to the party, but the CoPilot works great on the Blade400. I have one mounted on my 400 (that's for sale) There is another option for the CoPilot too that prevents the heli from dropping below a predetermined altitude. Hard Deck as I recall.

B-400 Still Alive
Great to see that there are still B-400 pilots out there. I have long ago put mine up on the wall. I do dust it off from time to time but it has not been in the sky for a long (long) time. If any of you are looking for a complete B-400 or specific parts, let me know. Time for all this stuff to find a home and get used. I also have a couple Co-Pilots and Flymentors if you want to give that a try. Safe flying!

Co-Pilot 11 just installed
Hi SeaComms. I have just done my first flights today with a Blade 400 Fly Bar after fitting a Co-Pilot 11 system. If you follow the thread https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=215203 it makes flying very enjoyable. Didn't even look like crashing and really felt like my 200SRX on intermediate. I wish I had done it years ago. Now to fly instead of fix.
