Yes, the reducing the cyclic gain fixed the problem for me.
I had relocated the BeastX to the front, right on the bottom frame plate, before installing the mechanics into the fuselage, I screwed and glued a little aluminum plattform first because the bottom plate consists mostly of holes that would not allow to tape the BeastX directly in place. |

This is what I came up with to prevent the front from coming off during less-than-perfect landings (first two pics).
It latches on to a brass tube that I epoxied into the front part behind the jet intake in the front of the doghouse (3rd photo). The last photo shows how the whole contraption looks from the outside. It can be unlatched with one finger through that same opening. I'll paint it black to make it even less visible. |

Here's a video, taken by Bill Ann in July, before I added most of the details :

Mine has also popped off on a firm landing a couple of times.. Today it came off to one side and made a nasty rip in the fibreglass although is repairable. I have considered remedies and think your contraption might be the most practical for me too. Cheers. Nice video!

The jet intake on the AS350 is a nice feature for this solution. For my next scale build (700 size Jet Ranger, but still about two years away) I'm considering using a spare channel to operate a similar latch via a servo, since there is no large enough opening on that model.

Nice job on the latch system. It looks to be pretty secure and should stop the unwanted bumping off in a hard landing. I had my TOW Defender canopy come loose a couple of times but for some reason, the CH-139 Jet Ranger never popped off, even when it had a very hard landing a couple of times, or at lest, I don't remember that it popped off. See if you can get out to the Spring Fling or the Northeast Heli Jamboree if you can't make it to the Nats/IRCHA next year.

The fine "handwritten" lettering: was that adhesive vinyl or stencil?

I've been to that event once only, but had a great time. The timing is not so good for me with events that I go to up our way. Joel does a great job and is one of the nicest pilots around. Have a good time there.
Don PS: You don't need a finished paint job to come out and join in the flying. My MH-6 isn't done yet but I still will bring it out in any condition to fly it. |

The nose section just got clear coated where I repaired it. Looks good in the picture; I'll pick it up tomorrow.
I noticed that my head was sitting a little low, so I'll get a longer main shaft from microhelis.de Last edited by getsuyoubi; 02-18-2019 at 06:19 PM.. |

Added a few more details (ski basket, bear paws, scale head button,...) over the winter, and raised the head by 19mm to get to the correct height over the doghouse.
I consider this project finished - until I spot something else that needs attention. P.S.: I couldn't find the (removable) bubble window in the morning. I had taken it out for the repair after the little mishap last year. When I got home from the field I finally remembered where I left it. All good now! |

I just noticed that I damaged the right skid. I had noticed that it was vibrating in flight, and when I tried to locate the source of that vibration I suddenly realized that the right skid was further back than the left one. It had cracked at the joints, but since I always carry the heli in my right hand and place it on the bench facing left, I never saw that the struts on the right were no longer vertical. No idea how that happened; my landings have always been nice and soft.
Now I have to figure out a way to repair the damage. I guess I cannot avoid disassembling the heli and removing the skid for repair - and probably apply a same fix to the other skid, too, to avoid similar problems in the future. |
