Hi everyone, this is Matt Blevins posting an official announcement that our October event is ON and WE ARE PUMPED!!! We’re planning three days and two nights of flying off a big, beautiful piece of farmland in Davie County, NC! C’mon out and join us!

About the facilities: Our field has electricity (100 Amp service), two covered pavilions, an air conditioned clubhouse, a fridge full of soda, two gas grills (one ”XL”and one large), and blue sky almost everywhere you look. The field is set up like this: Running N/S we have a 600’ grass flight line/runway, running off into the farmland on all sides. The main field will be divided into three flight boxes. Off to the right of the main Line, running E/W, we have another flight box, fronted by a hard rubber mat (For head button piros, of course - and for the micros). As stated, we’ll be rolling in a light tower, so we plan on flying and hanging out well into the night. Our fantastic club members will be manning the grill during the day, so we’ll have some great food available.

Contests: We’re currently planning a raffle, with all proceeds going to benefit our flying site. More details to come as we have them - don’t forget to friend us on Facebook for event updates.

Fun and games: Light tower. Light tower!!!!
We’ve talked about the different informal mini-comps we could put on - like an Auto contest, Heli Limbo, 450 Combat, Drag Racing, and so on. We may do some or all of these. Which ones we do is really up to you, the attendees - we’re glad to do whatever everyone is most interested in watching and participating in! So, please weigh in on Facebook and the forums and let us know. We’ll plan accordingly.

Most of all, though - This event is about having FUN - flying, hanging out, learning new things, helping others, and reveling in all the rich gifts of friendship that this hobby brings us.

~ More about the club, and why we’re finally getting around to hosting our Heli event:

So… For a few years now, we’ve discussed doing a heli event at our field, and earlier this year we all decided as a club that this would be the year we finally did it. We have such a great field - acres of wide open farmland- and knew it would be so much fun to open our field to a whole weekend of flying our helis. We have the support of the club behind us and everyone involved is really glad to be a part of it. We’ve enlisted the help of Rick Stowers (of R/C Helis Only-RCHO) to be the Contest Director for the event. Chad Strong and myself (Matt) are handling the main event functions, along with other volunteers from within our club. All our officers have let us know they’ll be volunteering for specific tasks, or just generally helping out. Feel free to ask any of us if we can help you while you’re our guest at the field.

About the club and the field:
The Winston-Salem R/C Club (WSRC) has been around for decades. Some years back, the club migrated to a piece of leased land over in Mocksville, NC (between Winston-Salem and Statesville) which is now its current location. Our Treasurer, Phil Vance is also the Treasurer for IMAC and so the club has been host to a great many well-attended IMAC meets. They still put on a couple of IMAC events each year, with overnight camping, bonfires and the usual after-hours hanging out after a nice day of flying. Our landowners are happy to have us, and the surrounding area is sparsely populated so we’re left alone to do whatever we want. Our club members are a friendly bunch, and many of our members fly helis and planes… Everybody is just laid back, and...The field is big enough that flyers can do whatever pleases them. However, membership has declined as the hobby has shrunk. So we decided to put on more events this year, and in the coming years, so that membership could still remain affordable to the average sport flyer.

Where we’re located: The field itself is in Mocksville, NC (Davie County). It’s surprisingly close to civilization...There are plenty of restaurants in the town of Mocksville just a few miles away. If you’re not camping with us at the field, lodging can be secured in Mocksville (Comfort Inn, Days Inn). Additional lodging and dining options can be found in Clemmons. What I’d suggest is to go to our website, open the field in Google Maps (Link above the photo), and check out the area. If you have questions, please use the “Contact Us” form on the club website. Your message will be received by me and I’ll get back with you.

In Helis we trust,
Matt Blevins

This event is brought to you by the Winston-Salem R/C Club of Mocksville, NC, along with Rick Stowers of RC Helis Only; and Matt Blevins and Chad Strong of the WSRC club.

We now have twenty-two sponsors for the event!! I can't thank our sponsors enough for their amazing support!!!

The GRAND PRIZE will be given away in the Pilot's Raffle.
Every registered pilot (excluding the event organizers) will get one ticket, thus giving each pilot the same odds of taking home the VERY special GRAND prize.

All additional prizes will either be given away for winning contests, or will be given away in the general raffle, with tickets being $1/ea or 6 tickets for $5. We literally have thousands of dollars in merchandise, gift certificates, apparel and discount coupons to give away. Bring plenty of cash for raffle tickets, because your odds are very good of winning!!!

Chad Strong has set up a Facebook event page for us, and is posting photos of the giveaway prizes regularly. The event page can be found here:

So, c'mon out and fly with us, and WIN SOME STUFF!!! This is an event that you don't want to miss!!

Well, LOWERFEST 2018 is in the books. It was mine and Matt Blevins first ever event and I think we knocked it out of the park. I think, 30 pilots we had this weekend. I don’t think the club has ever seen that many pilots out there at once but they were prepared. They were amazed at the flying we were doing and even more amazed that we had light towers for night flying. Overall, it really was a great weekend...great weather with really good friends and family. We couldn't have made this happen without our club and field, without Rick Stowers helping us out by being the CD for the event… thanks Rick for all your help and advice… Matt Blevins for all his hard work on keeping the flyer updated and all the running around he had to do… Joe Reyes from Team Ninja for the awesome LF 2018 Logo stickers which we loved… Alan E Butler for the very generous donation he made… JC Zankl for the pilot's raffle prize, Helidirect, Enterprise Hobby, Progressive RC, Lucien Miller with Innov8ive Designs, Frank Columbia with Amain Hobbies, Steve with Experience RC, Castle Creations, KDE Direct, Kontronik, Chuck Brit with Peak Aircraft, Matt and Amy Botos with Synergy, Shannon Turner with Only Fine Helis, Ray Lepper with Random Heli, Bert Kammerer with BK Hobbies, MSH USA, Savox USA, Jeff with RC Booya, Adrian with AccuRC, Sullivan Products, 3D Heli Upgrades, and last but not least Anderson RC in Thomasville. Big thanks to our club members who came out to help cook, serve, clean up, and work at the event. Shoutout to Jason Spaulding for his help at the field. Hope I covered everyone… If I missed you please know I appreciate you, Again we had a great weekend guys and we really appreciate you coming out to support our event and our club. hopefully we'll have another one next year… starting to work on it now… Until then be safe guys and happy flying
