Which vortex?
Did you update both FBL unit and Datapod?

I had that issue awhile back. It was so long ago that I've forgotten enough what the issue was that I can' be 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure it was the usb cable. Is it a vx1 or vx1n? For some reason I've never had an issue doing updates with the vx1e. But the vx1 and vx1n have to do the update through the datapod, and when updating these I've always had the update progress bar stop before finishing until I've done a few tries with a few different usb cables. I know there was a lost comms message in there somewhere but can't remember exactly where.

One thing you I think you must have is that the firmware of the datapod must be compatible with the firmware of the vortex. Did you check this?

Its the VX1 the original that came out. My 550E has been locked away up in the closet for the past 7 years. I just now learned of an update. Followed Berts videos to a T and I get a message saying Lost Comms...... Yes updated them all. All 3 to be exact.

It's worth checking how you're updating the DataPod, sensor, and vortex as the process is subtly different between units.

I wrote up a guide a while back, with pages 4-7 covering DataPod and VX1 firmware updates. Are you following the same steps I have there?

I found this thread:

https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=762888

There were solutions in that thread (order of updating datapod and unit, increasing battery voltage) although Angelos posted that order of updating should not matter.
