Default mCPS going into 'self destruct' mode

So yesterday, right after binding when I connected the battery, the blue light (stability mode) started blinking and the heli came on full power even in hold mode. The heli went insane flipping and bouncing on the ground with transmitter doing absolutely nothing... Seemed I would have to wait for the thing to self destruct or the battery to run out (or risk grabbing it from the ground with the blades spinning at 100%...)
Eventually, the skid piece with the battery came off and it got tangled in the blade which blocked it. Long enough for me to reach for it and disconnect the battery.
But the damage has been done as the board was smoking because of trying to run the motor and it being blocked.
So the board was toast. I put a new board, and it burned the minute I started the motor, so it seems the old motor is also toast. There's a transistor on the top right that started smoking.

So, pretty much the heli went insane and I am down with 2 burnt boards and a burnt motor. The most expensive damage I've done to the heli without it being my fault. So freaking annoying!

Did anyone experience this before? shouldn't there be a fail safe if the connection to the transmitter (DX6) is compromised, maybe don't turn the motor full on? Should I contact Horizon Hobby about this?

It can't hurt to contact HH, I have found them to be very helpful in the past.
