Default Searching for 800 Clas Helicopter Gas Engine

I've been flying electric helicopters, from 450's to 700's, for several years now. I'm thinking that I'd like to convert one of my 700's to an 800 gasser. That being said, I know nothing about how to select a gas engine that would be suitable for an 800 helicopter. I've seen some gas engines have a pull cord. I would really like that option.

Would someone here be able to suggest one or two gas engines?

I'd appreciate the help!

lets start with which helicopter do you want to use?

that will pretty much determine what drive ratios are available, which will pretty much narrow down any engine size choices

Default One option

You could get a Whiplash kit and buy the long tail conversion kit for it:

133-800 Whiplash V2 800mm Boom Conversion - Set

That helicopter kit can use a 30cc motor (Hanson or TRM) or even a 310 or 320 motor from TRM though I believe the 320 is still in test mode.

This Whiplash supports pull start for any of the engine choices, Carey just built a kit with the 320 motor to test it in that platform. See his post about it with pictures.

Default In this case

Look at Dennis's blackout mods, he has a light conversion for a Trex 700 that you may like. Carey stocks it for $549.

Actually, yes....there is a specific reason that I want to go to 800. With limited fear of the overall cost, I would very much like to build a gas powered helicopter, capable of 30-45 minutes of flight time, for Search and Rescue purposes. This helicopter will never, intentionally, be flipped nor rolled....no 3D. Just lift off, hover, perform a mission, and land at home.

I have 5 other helicopters and I love flying them. They are all electric. I just can't imagine that and electric setup will give me the flight time that I am looking for.

Thank you, Dennis! I'm still working on getting my wife's permission for this project. She's slowly coming around, lol. I'll be in touch.

okay so sound's like you're interested in the G700XZ conversion, do you have a preferable head speed you like (or at least a range)?

To be very honest with you, i've not even thought about a desired headspeed yet. I dont know what kind of headspeed + blade pitch (on an 800) will lift the AUW (also unknown) of the helicopter.

I did look at the G700XZ conversion. What all comes with that kit?

So, if i understood correct, you need a gas powered platform for UAV style flight with large fuel capacity capable for flight time up to 40 min..

The 800MM size is to be able to carry more payload.

Blackout G700XZ is designed for high performance but with some modifications of course can be used for Aerial works too.

I have several request about a UAV platform and i am working on a specific design..

I had halted the UAV Project thinking that the BOXER Project would be better for this but i need more time about it and after the requests for 30CC UAV platform i started working on it again..

Using all the best parts of our designs i plan to produce a nice UAV platform that will be lightweight, rigid, reliable and capable of 1+ Hour of flight time.

If you want more information about this please let me know via e-mail your specs and your needs for this model and i will do my best to help. The UAV Design is under development right now, so we can work together on a version that will be designed under your needs.

If you want something fast, you can get a G700XZ along with a TREX 700X kit, put bigger tanks at the sides of the frame for longer time on the air and you are ready to go..

But please Keep in Mind :

- the G700XZ Gasser Conversion Kit is designed for TREX 700X or XN Helis.

- the G700Z V2 is designed for TREX 700N or E with 61MM frame spacing.

I have a century trex 700 gassee conversion kit with a nib zenoah g26puh...It takes a trex 700 donor...I looked around awhile for a good deal on a used donor but ended up buying all components new which Costa a little more but I wanted new...I also bought the 800 tailbone to stretch it out....pm me if interested....Only a couple things has been started like main gear assembly...

Now for the Areal filming purposes you have two options.
I would call them economically feasible and financially unlimited

with the economically feasible you're on the right spot. You have the Trex 700 donor... with the stretch to 800.... and the above suggested conversion kits and some modeling skills you can do it.

for the financially unlimitedversions I would suggest you take a look at
Vario
https://www.vario-helicopter.biz/de/...::22_1021.html
Platform based on their gasser design, tested and prooven, but again Vario priced...

Bergen
Welcome to Bergen R/C - /Gas
Chris makes a gasser platform for "industrial" use and it was used inthe film industry before... also has camera gimbals... but you need to talk to Chris. A nice fella btw

Skokoom
Skookum UAV
As they left the hobby side of the house and ventured in the business , they developed both the controllers as well as flying platforms. Their hobby line is on a (permanent?) hold but the UAV side is developing fast.... They are responsive via FB...

and then there is the crossover to agriculture
https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/mo...riculture-rmax
Used for other purposes but can be used for camera works as well. This is as close as you can get to a military type drone and not paying for one... I might be off here so others with the knowledge please chip in.
