Default logo 550

Hi I'm dialing in a new logo 550 (metal head version). I built this exactly as per book, scorpion motor included and pinion included. When I flew it I had a little elevator jiggle jiggle up and down. Experience tells me the head speed is low, so I raise it and it gets better.

I tried it with and without the optional washer to increase or decrease damping doesn't really make a difference. ITs not till about 2100 that the little veritcal jiggle jiggle in the elevator completely goes away. 2100 doesn't seem that fast for a 550. But the included gearing is not very useful much past 2100.

Am I doing something wrong ?

I would get the 15t pinion. No idea why the 14t is stock with the combo, that will not be enough to govern a good conservative head speed for this helicopter like 2100-2200.

Depending on the blade, even 2300-2400 is not unreasonable on a 550. When I had the 550sx I used the 16t and 2400 with radix 550mm, 15t and 2150 with VTX 557mm.

No one said you can't fly 550 at 1600... I used to do it too.

2100-2200 is a reasonable head speed for 550, there is no disputing that.

I don't mind having a bank at 1600, but , elevator going jiggle jiggle jiggle up and down boom. Does this version of the kit orings, swash, metal blade grips etc not like low head speed.

make sure the dampers are greased good.. they also need to break in a little bit.. all my logos needed 20 or so flights.

the manual says only grease the inside of the damper, not the outside. Thats what I did, is that wrong ?

I'm so bad with grease application that I end up greasing the whole heli.

I NEVER SAID THAT FLINT!

I can't figure out why some get wobble on lhs on some helis. And then others don't. I can't troubleshoot it since it never had it.

It's interesting though.

wobbles on the 550 and 600 are mostly damper related and can be tuned with preload or shims or O-rings arrangement in the head.

Going by traditional experience I wanna say the damping seems good but there are more washers needed the blade grips could be more snug to the hub. But I never had a heli with this kind of o ring damping strategy for any period of time. At 2150 it starting to feel nice !

Haven't flown the "new" metal head, but looking into the manual it states that there's an extra shim for "extra hard dampening", maybe you'll need to remove this if you're aiming for low hs...

PS: Crap just read that you already tried this, sorry...

So my friend had his tonight exact same Heli motor gearing - he has HW esc I have scorpion. I doubt itís governor related. He has junk Bk servos I have junk kst servos. Iím gonna try different servos next.

Tonight I tried again with and without the washer for hard damping I tried the orings well greased. I tried my friends vtx blades , tried blade bolts tighter loose for main and tail. Tried every combination of changes I could think of in the time I had. Flies immaculate but jiggle jiggle in the elevator below 2100. My friends is motionless like itís sitting on the bench itís that still.

Iíll figure this out so other people dont have to go through his nonsense if they see the thread.

Flybarless related?

I know this: the slightly slower proodeler servos would not stop bobbing all over.

Your junk sevos may be too junk? Maybe the kst junk is less junkier than yours at this point.

I used to fly my old Outrage 550 flybar at 2400 all the time.

Now that I have a couple of these Logo's, I had hoped for a smooth runner at much lower speeds....I can say my 600SE sure shakes around alot at the lower end of speed. I went to the less firm dampers. It helped a little, but the machine evidently still needs a lot more break-in.

I think this was around 1450 on the Logo 600.
Logo 600 sx yard bopping part 1 (9 min 3 sec)

Logo 600 microbeast messing with tail settings (3 min 25 sec)

1650 ish on the Logo 550sx
Last few min of messin' around on the Logo 550sx (4 min 50 sec)

Low speed wobble baffles me when people get it. Why does it happen to some?

Thanks for the updating with the resolution.

Which servos were you using and what have you got on the model now?

Don't want to create a this servo that servo situation. Because the servo that is in question I have great success with. And these are no different, they are tight as a drum and move strong. But for whatever combination of factors its elevator bobbing at low head speed. The servos are a KST 815.

The servos I put in and no bobbing are the Align badged servos from a 700X. I will try those KST's in my Align and report back if they are jiggling over there or not.
