Default 550sx as a 500

I like the 500 size for the lower strain on battery/ESC for a 6s setup over a 550.

Any part changes needed or concerns of buying the 550sx and using 500 blades instead?

Is the Blade grip width too big for 500 blades?

I prefer downsizing a 550sx over upsizing the 480 xxtreme as it seems fewer parts are needed to do so and I prefer the plastic frames.

Thank you for your assistance.

I used to run ot like this once in a while.

Use 520 blades if you can.

Use washers on the blade grips if needed. You don't need anything else.

If you keep the equipment light it will be as light as any 510-520 size heli out there. A Scorpion 4020 motor, a HW 100 esc, a set of RT 520 mains and around a 4000-4500 6s pack and it will be great.

For sure. You may even consider removing the counter bearing. But really that's not very heavy and has good benefits.

Could even drill large holes in the the battery tray. Those are unnecessarily heavy.

But equipment as stated is the bigger deal.

Thank you for sharing thoughts. Any change to tail pulley pinion?
Tail blade 85mm?

I don't know that there is another tail pulley choice. Someone else would know. Stock ratio is good.

I just keep whatever tails I have on. I fly low headspeed so i need as much tail authority as I can get.

I think 85 to 90 is the 500 std though.

There is no other tail pinion that I know of.

I highly recommend a 92-95mm tail blade. 92 works well with up to 560mm mains.

If you’re only going to swing 520 mains, 95 tails will work great as well.

The kit comes with narrow cord 92mm Rotor Tech tailblades. These will work fine for your setup, the tail ratio is a 4.67 which works well. All you should need to change is the mainblades.

You probably know this, but if you decide to grab a scorpion 4020, make sure it is one of the IV models so that you get the 30mm bolt holes.

The original Logo 550 was the Logo 500 which swing 500-520mm blades

Yep! But for me, those 500s did not stay on for VERY long at all

Like the Oxy5, airframe was much more suited to 550s.

Leave it as is. The 550sx is not hard on packs. Especially compared to ther 550 models.
