New 230s V2 setup questions with DX8 Gen 2
Just tried out my new 230s V2 with my DX8 gen 2 last night. Was able to hover around the backyard for duration of the battery. This is my 2nd (modern) helicopter, so I am still a beginner. A few questions if anyone can offer some assistance:
1) When I was hovering, the tail rotor likes to "chirp" (sort of like the robotic sounds you would hear from a robot in star wars). I also notice the tailboom, tends to oscillate a tiny bit when it does this. Is this the normal behavior or do I have a gyro setting that might need adjustment ? 2) I don't understand for the life of my the Mixing settings in the manual for the DX8. (ex: P-mix-1). I left these default. Is there anything I have to do ? 3) It looks like the manual missed the throttle hold setting for the throttle curves. If throttle hold is engaged, the throttle values should all go to zero in the curve, I would think ? I set it this way and it seems to work. 4) In the dual rate/expo setup, the table suggests 25% expo for all three levels . ex: 100/25 100/25, 75/25. I left it at the first setting, but 25% feels kind of "mushy" compared to my Nano S2 (which is 0%). What is the recommended settings to use ?. btw, are these dual rate/expo settings, tied to the flight modes ? - or are they switched completely separate from flight mode ? Maybe I'm a confused on how the dual rates/expos are to be used. Sorry - probably too many questions for one post... Thanks in advance, |

Not sure about the other questions, but i bet your chirping motor is quite normal. If you can do a video, we might be better able to tell...

I am not very skilled, so i pick a setting that meets my opinion how the Heli shoud react to Controls, and keep it.

if your unsure on transmitter settings , you can load the setting to your computer , to a sd card , then into your transmitter .
a friends 230 does the tail chirp too , does sound like a gain settinf but flys ok as is. |

I have to figure out the SD card transfer for my TX first. It doesn't seem to work for me,but maybe I bought the wrong card. The 230s manual doesn't recommend any tail gain adjustment on the DX8 so I guess that it will still chirp even with the factory setup file from Blade.

mine chirps ... a lot ... sounds like a bug flying around ... so do the other 230s (both v1 and v2) other people own at the flying field. It doesn't wag ... maybe a very small twitch occasionally. The chirping bug noise is due to the small brushless motor driving the tail I believe.

The sound of the stock Tail is rather like screaming than chirping...i don`t like it. But I got rid of it, so I donīt mind. As long as there is no wag, ignore it. The Manual recommends Tail Gain adjustment, page 13, Point 5 to 8. This will only change the Gain parameters in FBL, so You are right - changes made in the TX will not affect this. The Sound will not change, but if there is any wag (in combination to Your Throttle and Pitch curve) you can adjust it there. As i changed two of my 230S to Fenestron Tail, and one of them to NOTAR Tail, (both Multiblade Main Rotors) i had to deal with gain adjustment. Works pretty fine...

i read some info on the sd card needed to transfer data , smaller cards work better and slower transfer rates work better too , i tried a 64g class 10 card , wouldnt work , went to a 16g class 6 , worked fine..

DX8 Gen setup questions
I'm very confused for a few things:
1) The manual states Sw (F) Pos for D/R and Expo for aileron, elevator and rudder. Does that mean in the Transmitter each of these (Ail, Elev, Rudd) are set to switch "F" or the Flight mode switch? 2) Also, the manual states Sw (B) Pos for the throttle curve and pitch curve. It makes more sense to me to have Dual Rates and Expo for aileron, elevator and rudder as well as for the Throttle and Pitch curves all assigned to a single switch, like the Flight mode switch. Anyway, what is the correct way to program the transmitter: Which switch should be assigned for the D/R and Expo functions? Which switch should be assigned for throttle and Pitch curves, or are they already tied to the Flight mode or B switch? Actually, I didn't see an assignable switch for throttle curve nor pitch curve when inputting the values, so that is confusing. Anyway, I setup the D/R and expo for ail, elev, and rudd and assigned each to switch B. I setup throttle and pitch curves per the manual, but assume throttle and pitch control are already assigned to switch B since I could not assign the switch. I did notice that each (N, 1, 2 and Hold) icon did not turn black when inputting the appropriate values, even though the B switch was set in the appropriate N, 1 or 2. Shouldn't the N, 1 or 2 icon turn black to indicate the switch is active when in that flight mode? One other thing, after binding and the helicopter sitting level on the floor and in Hold mode, there is hardly any pitch movement from full throttle stick down to full stick up. That can't be right. I'm stuck!! Any comments?

As i am from Germany, it would be possible, but hard for me to explain all that in english. But a few words: the Manual settings are correct. Throttle an Pitch curves are assigned to the flightmodes. Expo and DR are assigned to Switch F.
You could Download the TX File from Spektrum Website - it is correct aswell. But: You can aswell assign all You want as You like it. It makes sence to assign DR and Expo to a Flightmode, once You have found what fits best for You.

There are three flight modes on switch B. 0= full SAFE ; 1=SAFE but with more banking and such allowed; 2=3D mode/no SAFE. If you have it in position 0 or 1 then full stick movement will not move the swash much. I fly only in position 2 with mine as I am not interested in the SAFE mode.

The ammount of swash movement while in Hold mode depends on the Hold pitch-curve You made. In the TX File from Spektrum website the pitchcurve for Hold should go from -100 to +100. You should see a lot of pitch movement when You move the stick the whole way up and down in Hold mode now.
