Default Possibly stupid Companion version question

Hi,

I've been using OpenTx on a QX 7 for about a year now, and while I'm very computer literate I have mainly worked in the OpenTx environment on my QX 7 rather than using Companion. I'd like to start using Companion, but just a little wary of messing up anything that I have done to date (I have six helis moved over on my QX 7 from my Spektrum DX7).

I have Companion 2.2 loaded on my Laptop and recently updated it to the latest version when I was loading my latest heli (between Christmas and New Year) - at least I thought that I was loading the latest version but it appears that I am on the latest version of Companion 2.2, rather than 2.3 which I had expected - is there any benefit to moving from 2.2 to 2.3? Is 2.3 mainly focused at new radios or ACCESS?

I'm slightly confused ....

Cheers,
Mike

The short answer to the upgrade question is: it depends.

I moved up to 2.3.x because it now supports up to 64 unique receivers (think Model Match) instead of the previous 16. This only matters if you have more than 16 models. However, there are a number of other fixes that reduce latency and improve overall stability that may be of interest. For instance:

X7: fix additional switches SI/SJ handling
All radios: fix handling of conflicts between external module and trainer settings
Latency for existing XJT modules (internal or external) has been significantly improved

The best thing to do is look at the change log entries to see if anything either applies to your specific radio model, or addresses an issue you've been having.

You can install the 2.2 and 2.3 companion at the same time (2.3 doesn't over-write 2.2), but the desktop link will still point to the 2.2 version. You need to go into the start menu to find the 2.3 installation.

Also, upgrade the multi-module to 1.3.0.47+ if you have one, otherwise you'll miss out on some of the new features in 2.3.

Good luck!
