Default Ikon does it, and does it well!

Helped a guy set up his Ikon on a Goblin 700 today and everyone was commenting how cool it was that it flew well right from the get go. No futzing about trying to get it tuned up and flying right. He hovered for about 10 seconds, then off he went doing loops and rolls.

Try that with a flybar heli! LOL

I really have to say the Ikon is just an amazing piece of equipment.

I have to say it even though I do not fly anything else anymore. I did spartan (yes not latest) and beastx (not lastest) and never Vbar, but Brain/Ikon seem to work well for me the last couple years. I don't mess around and what settings I do change, I know what they do and what I want.

I'm sure many people can find that in whatever flybarless system but I do love Brain.

Thats what I noticed when I built my first helicopter from kit back in November. Oxy 4 max + brain 2. When I went to the field it just worked. There has been nothing I needed to change. My flying skill is somewhat low being new but I can fly figure 8s ... invert ... loops. All of that works fine

I just got an Ikon (v1) to try it. I have flown mainly the Spartans since it first came out and, like what some of you are saying about the Brain, I was able to setup the Spartan at home and go to the field and have a perfect maiden that required no changes.

I was spoiled, big time. But I wanted something newer, and with a rescue feature etc. So my first excursion away from the Spartan was Spirit. But my first flights with the Spirit were far from perfect and required some tweaks. I was not too impressed with the software at first but I'm used to it now and have arrived at some settings that are 'close enough for rock 'n roll'.

But I still thought I should try the Brain / Ikon. So far I have only had time to connect it via USB (very nice to use a generic micro USB cable, so that's points out of ten right from the start :-). The software also looks much more mature and evolved. Sooooooo, I'm optimistic :-)

Hi Trillian, Not all functions are available on the iKon1 (or Brain1). You should check exactly what is on offer. Are you sure it's an iKon v1 that's pretty old now, was it used?

The original iKON...(V1) had a rectangular case without a slightly slanted top edge where the servo leads plug in...and no polarity protection

The iKON V2 has a slightly slanted top edge on the servo plug-in end...and had polarity protection (label says iKON)

The iKON2 is the latest and greatest version (label says iKON2)

All V2 and iKON2 units will update to the latest/greatest basic firmware

Weeeeell, I have a Brain and an Ikon. They are both on firmware 3.2.060. I guess the Ikon is a V2 (slanted edge and polarity slots), but not the Ikon 2

It is simple - if there is no big number 2 on the label, it is not a Brain2 / iKON2

So what am I missing not having the Brain2/ Ikon2 ?

I don't need telemetry or TX integration, I'm using Spektrum sat RX, don't need gov or bluetooth.

I believe it’s mainly logging. You loose the ability to log flight data (think black box) to the Ikon.

(I’ve only had the Ikon2s, so I hope someone else can fill you in on the other details)

If you don't need all that, then probably not a lot you're missing. I had a V2 for a while and it flew just as well as the Brain2.

The newer 2 has more computing power for all the telemetry, logging, and such. I honestly don't remember if the V2 had rescue or not, but the new Brain2 has it.

Logging includes vibration logging, flight system logging (voltages, servos, receivers), flight performance (actual rates of rotation) and events (radio failures, fail safe).
So... Yeah, Logging.

Oh, and there is a neat feature that splits the Rescue / Self Level into two functions - Rescue / Self Level and a separate servo output (lights, sounds or a glowplug igniter).

Oh, and SRXL / SRXL2 support
Oh, and support for telemetry / logging from ESC that have that feature.
Oh, and a roadmap that supports the weird Spektrum programming.

And, all new versions of the firmware releases (about 1 or 2 per quarter) are for the Brain2 / iKON2.
The older controllers will not be updated past 3.2.

Yup. Just maidened my first Ikon2 and loved it! Especially loved the downloadable logs after the fact. All Ikon/Brain from here on out.
