Itís a 8 channel radio in the base configuration.
So when you go to the store and buy the radio it only comes with 8 channels not 12?

Anyway I think people know what I am alluding to as with the v-bar NEO the amount of fuss with having to purchase pro and rescue if you wanted it.

I am not knocking the business model of either company. Clearly it works.

The radio looks very good, not knocking it in any way.

So what are you knocking? And yes I do know what you are getting at but not sure I'm seeing the point. The ds-12 is the model number, cannot confirm why that is, maybe because of the other model numbers, maybe it was originally to do with channels , it is capable of up to 16 channels, I may have missed the advertisement where it is stated that the radio comes stock with 12 channels. I don't think it is advertised as the ds-12 with 12 channels with the base model, if someone is doing that then it is misleading and should be called out. The Jeti product page states the features included with the base model. I also believe that the Vbar pro and rescue functions are stated as optional as well. Again in my position if I am not happy with something then I simply don't buy it.

I think the thing people like with Jeti is that the options let you get a darn good radio with plenty of features for much less money.

And if you want to add any of the more advanced features, it's not that expensive to just add the ones you want. It's certainly why I went for a DS-14 rather than a DS-16, and I'm very happy with the capabilities I've ended up with.

Exactly! The thing is built very well.

Say you are just getting into the hobby, what do you buy. A Spektrum TX with 6 channels. Why, because it’s cheap, about $200 for a DX6. But anyone who sticks around, will want a radio with more channels, and end up buying something with more. So the cost to upgrade the spektrum is a whole new radio. For the Jeti it was $25. Seems like a bargain

Unless I had some extremely complicated warbird with lots of servos and bling, I can't see needing a -16 or -24. I can run a full-house elec glider, including crow and variable camber, no problem on the 12. Dan

I felt the same way. I got my son a DS12 and I had my DS16 Carbon. I got serious radio envy after a few weeks and ended up selling the DS16 for a second DS12. The aluminum case is terrible to use compared to the DS12, I wonít be going back to a metal brick.

My first impression of the plastic was that it was cheap, but in reality, it is just lightweight. The quality of the plastic itself is great. I love the light weight. Nothing to be gained with holding a brick

Funny how we all see things differently. I have a DC-24 (I fly pinch) and just love the heft.
Since I got it people say I fly more with my hands than with my body. May be the weight is holding me still

Which version of the DS12 do you have? From what I understand (again someone who knows very little about this brand) the DS 12 comes in a lightweight plastic case version or you can get the special edition carbon / aluminum case version.

Is there a huge difference in the gimbals between the DS 12 and the DS 16? It looks like I may have to test drive the 16, because I canít seem to call when the 12 Is available.

I have the carbon DS12. Just the faceplate is carbon. It is a carbon insert to the plastic case.

The gimbals are all Hall effect.

The normal 12 is the only one with plastic gimbals.

The deluxe and the other 14-16etc have metal gimbals. I can’t tell the difference in feel

The Carbon Black & Grey DS-12s have metal gimbals. I’m not sure the faceplate is Carbon, I think it’s a decal.

I can't wait to try one out. The waiting is killing me.

I hate to say it but after waiting and trying since the first week in July to get one of the test drive Jeti’s. I’ve lost all of the excitement of trying one out. I’ve called 4 times and all I get is “keep checking the website” (which I do every morning and night) Its a great program but how do you get one to try out. Wonder how long people are keeping them?

Wow, yeah you’ve been waiting a long time! I was not disappointed with my decision. It’s painful to read the heartbreak that the Spektrum users are having this summer. (But that’s another story).

What part of the world are you in, maybe there’s someone close by?

That sucks. I would be very surprised if you were to buy one and be disappointed with it. Why not just take the plunge and order one, forget the test drive?

If you’re looking for the absolute best deal on a Jeti, the Spirit Edition DS-12 is $580 delivered, and is a regular Jeti DS-12 that comes with $100 worth of upgrades already (16 channels, graphs, 6 flight modes, function curves). It’s fully compatible with all brands of FBLs & receivers - it just has some additional setup wizard programming for Spirit FBL systems (which will be available for all other Jeti radios with an update). Only caveats is that’s it only comes in red (no carbon faceplate or metal gimbals) and the US version won’t ship til Sept 11th. Once its available on the 11th, orders from Spirits E-shop deliver in 3 days to the US, so you’d likely have it by the 16th.

A regular DS-12 from any other vendor will be $595 and any upgrades will be extra.

I personally JUST purchased a black carbon edition DS-12, as I just couldn’t wait for the US Spirit Edition to become available, and am eager to get started getting it set up on my helis. I was previously using Spektrum, and after going through the hell of owning an iX12 and then downgrading back to a DX9, it was time for a change to a higher class of system.

You wont be disappointed with any Jeti you go with.
