Default High elevation and thin air - Am I thinking correctly ?

I'm flying a TRex 450L in Santa Fe, New Mexico ... the elevation is 7200'. I'm also still using the "training wheels" ... a 26" diameter "X" of dowels with the small balls at the ends, zip tied to the skids. (no actual wheels )

The heli feels sluggish. My guess is the thin air from the high elevation combined with the extra weight of the "training wheels". Does this sound correct?

I'm thinking of changing to longer main rotor blades to compensate. I'm running the stock 325mm blades now. Maybe longer blades would grab more air? Does this sound like correct thinking?

What other effects will the longer blades create?

I've seen the 360mm Align blades online. Am I correct these will fit on the T-Rex 450L? Are these the longest blades possible on the TRex 450L?

Thanks for your help

Head speed also makes a huge difference in sluggish vs snappy feel. Hat is your main rotor rpm?

My T-Rex 450L Dominator Super Combo kit came with 360mm blades.

The 450L comes in two versions for 3S battery with 325mm blades or for 6S battery with 360mm blades. The 6S version was most common.

If you use a 3S battery in the version meant for 6S it will feel VERY sluggish. You can tell what version you have by the Kv of the motor, the 6S version is 1800Kv, the 3S version is 3200Kv

It would be ok to try 360mm blades on the 3S version, just watch motor and ESC temps.

Thank you for your replies !!! Very helpful ...

xoexoe - I have no idea what my head speed rpm's are. Could you advise me on what tool is needed to measure it? Am I correct that the measurement needs to be taken when the heli is flying?

Smoggie - Just checked ... I'm running the 3S version with a 3200KV motor. Is it possible to upgrade to the 6S and 1800KV motor on my existing TRex 450L airframe? Would other electronics / parts need to be upgraded to be compatible with the 6S? Do you think the 6S version would be noticeably more peppy? Would the 6S battery airtime duration be longer as well?

Thanks again
