If it is a Trex 700N SE / LE / 3G (aka: Wide Frame / V1 / V2) then you can either take one side-frame off and the tank drops out through the middle (that's a bitch) or you carefully remove the plastic "Fuel Tank Guard" that is between the frame opening and the tank. Do that on both sides and then work the tank out the left or right side. This is still a pain, but it is much less painful that taking off a side-frame. Quote:
The next problem will be that the center plug leaks now. I used a stopper off of a DuBro tank and (basically) permanently sealed the center hole And, BTW, the Trex 700N DFC (aka: Narrow Frame) tank will fit in the 700N LE / SE / 3G frame even though the DFC frame is narrower. And, it uses the outer hole and there is no middle hole.

Thanks bud
I've got the tank out, and the offending middle bung - might you know of a decent fuel proof sealer I could refit it with? Kev

The is no fuel proof sealer that I know of.
Alcohol seems to eat everything I've ever tried. And whatever the alcohol doesn't eat, the nitro does. Your best bet is to figure out why the bung is leaking and then correct that problem with a new part. As I recall, the plug from the DuBro tank fits the tank opening. So if the blank plug is leaking, you can buy the small DuBro tank and use it to seal the hole. And, I'd move the fuel line pass through bung to the outside hole in the tank.

Thanks guys
A company named QuickUK used to make a cnc gadget that cured the leaky bung issue without any sealant required...I managed to track one down in a model shop in Spain!...patiently waiting for it to arrive Kev

I wish I had seen this earlier. You didn't have to take it out, you didn't have to search any solutions.
All you had to do was put fuel in it and watch it leak. It swells faster than ummm well I won't bother giving you a simili. It would have sealed up in about 10 mins. Happens to our Trex's annually, it shrinks when there is no fuel in the tank. Try it ! |

Quick UK used to make all kinds of CNC upgrades and bling parts for RC helis - Thunder Tiger, Align and others that were mainstream 10 or 15 years ago.
This is the link to their web site, but almost everything is out of stock. https://www.quickuk.eu/cat/align_-_p.../quick_uk.html But, you can find the part numbers and start Google searching for the part number and may luck out (Grand RC used to carry everything Quick UK made) But, the part you may be looking for says it is still in stock: Quote:
But, they stopped machining the bling parts and now focus on just being a distributor.

I found that the easiest way to sort the leaking tank is to use rough sand paper around the hole and then put the plug back and apply shoe goo over the plug and onto the tank.

Thanks guys
The Quick UK cnc 'thing' from Spain did indeed cure the leaky blank bung, but then I found that the fuel outlet bung was also leaking, so ended up buying some 'Seals All'...and that sorted that issue kev |

Ya I didn't get into the "I feel so stupid" part of the story but its a good laugh.
One day I came out with an appetite to fly nitro after flying electric for some time with my 700XN. I was sooooo looking forward to it and the weather was perfect, I filled it up and its pouring out that black plug base and I freaked out after I confirmed its the black plug leaking and so I drained it and cursed and swore and drove to the hobby shop that stocks all align locally. I complained and bitched and he apologized and sold me a new tank kit. No crashes no nothing, go back to field and take it all apart and install new tank. Fill it up, now this new one is pouring out the front same way. Started yelling and screaming and my friend there who has years of flying aligns tells me on my text message dude, just fill it up and wait it will swell up and seal. Completely normal. |
