Default MUI sensor?

I was testing out a new MUI current sensor today to verify that it worked.

So I plugged it into a EX bus port on a R3 receiver.

After setting the receiver to EX bus, and powering it all up I was able to see the MUI in the telemetry menu. All good, or so it seems. I connected the battery voltage sensor wires to a spare battery, but nothing.

I set the receiver up to ‘Jetibox/servo’ and voila data... what am I missing about EX vs. Jetibox and why do I get data on one but not the other.

The MUI uses the older EXT protocol. You must use Jetibox or the transmitter Jetibox Emulator to program it. EXBUS is a newer protocol and they're not interchangeable. EXBUS devices are generally programmed through the device manager.

IIRC, the EXT port on the R3 is the only port that can do EXT or EXBUS, so you would set it for Jetibox/servo, which you did.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Is it possible to configurator a REX3 receiver with a EXbus port (for connecting to a FBL - Ikon2 in my case) and one of the other ports to a EXT for the MUI. This is closer to my actual use case vs. using the R3 that was in hand.

Yup, that's why I only buy REX receivers, multiple ports which can use ExBus and EXT so you can use ExBus for things like FBL integration and still connect a telemetry sensor.

Hi,

the Rex3 has 4 ports:

1: servo / Ditex / digital in / digital out
2+3: E1/E2 = Servo/Ditex/Jetibox/Sensor/EX Bus/PPM/UDI/SBUS/digital in/digital out/etc etc etc
4: EXT = Jetibox only

... so you can use EXT for the sensor or configure E1 or E2 to do so. the other of E1/E2 will be configured to EX Bus for fbl connection.

Excellent! Thanks, now if only the REX3 wasn’t so hard to get in the US...

that's really strange... what's up with Rex3 there? why do they not make it available? for all heli-flyers by far the best thing available. in my wife's little Airwolf i.e. there is gear servo on port 1, YGE telemetry on E1, Spirit 2 on E2 and MTAG on EXT. could not be easier for up to this need... it's light, tiny and full range.

such a great little miracle box. i've even built a "Jeti/Spek. converter" with it... just connected a Spek. TX module to it (PPM) plus a little 2s lipo and here we go... all the Spek. BNF stuff flown with our Jetis

Rabid, the USA FCC certification isn't cheap, and it takes quite a while. Esprit possibly decided no based on sales potential vs certification cost. What really sucks is that the REX7 is pretty much the same thing, is certified in the US, and it should only take an addendum to get a REX3 certified since most of the hardware/firmware is just about the same. Not business/hobby friendly.

At one point I tried to look up the cost. I think it was on the order of $1000 for the required testing at a lab. I’ll assume the rest is paperwork. Miserable paperwork, but none the less...

The REX3 here in the UK is 63 Vs 73 for the REX7.

There's so little difference in price you might as well buy the 7 in the US and have the extra ports available if you ever need them. Most of my helis are running the REX6 or the r7 nano for micros.
