Default Which Xnova motor to replace my?

I looked thru Xnova's website and could not find a motor to match my Align 520MX. My blades are 425mm. Plan on later trying 480mm. So motor from Xnova will work good?

I’m going to grasp at straws because I’m not to familiar with the gearing that’s available for the heli you’re working on...

The XNOVA Lightning 3220 or 3225 look like options. They both have a lower Kv so you’ll need a larger pinion (~1.5x more teeth) for the 3225

https://www.xnovamotors.com/new-ligh...-motor-series/

I think a XTS 4020 might be complete overkill but not sure what your going for.

If the pinions not a dealbreaker, check that the motor can be adjusted as well. Check the Shafts are same diameter and mounting patterns, etc...

You really have to look at how wide the frames are to fit any motor in there if itís a tRex 500

These are the specs of your Align 520MX motor:
  • Input voltage: DC 18-26V 6s LiPo
  • Max continuous current: 85A/130A(5sec)
  • Max output power: 1900W/2750W(5sec)
  • KV value: 1600KV
  • Stator Arms: 9
  • Magnet Poles: 6
  • Dimension: spindle 5x45x71.7mm
  • Weight: 267g (aprox.)
The stator size seems to be 3527, which means 35mm wide, and 27mm tall.

I am not able to find a suitable Xnova replacement motor of similar size and kv.

The closest I found was the Lighting 3225 -1100

The Diameter appears to be 50mm vs 45mm of the Align. The OP needs to figure out if it will fit. At least get out a ruler.

The other thing is the gear ratio will need to be changed the Xnova has a Kv of 1100 while the Align is 1600 Kv. Or run a higher cell count pack & esc. Or get a new pinion as suggested earlier. Or run a much lower headspeed. Or have XNova rewind it for a higher Kv...

i would ditch the xnova idea only cause scorpion makes a drop in 1600kv motor for the trex 500
xnova are great motors, but there isnt one available in the kv required.

Thank you. It seems Xnova has nothing. I did notice Scorpion has a 1600kv motor that will work. Now it's up to me if I want to spend $80.00 for the Align 520mx or $130.00 for the Scorpion motor. I think I'll save the $50.00 and go with Align 520mx.

Thank you guys.

I don't have experience with either motor specicially, but in general one brand enjoys a better reputation for overall quality and performance than the other.

I have both, Xnova and Scorpion but given the limited number of flights on either I won’t comment on reliability.

Scorpion gets a hard time for running warmer and they recommend oiling the bearings. Some of the Egodrift motors run warm also but they have been very well received in some circles...
