Default Kontronik ESC – what is the difference between Mode 4 & 11 ?

Hello,

I have been using Kontronik Jazz, Koby ESCs for a number of years now. Have always used just the Governor Mode (4).

I have just purchased a Kontronik 60HV, and going through the online manual I noticed that there is Mode 11 also a heli governor mode. The manuals are not that clear, Question: What is the difference between Mode 4 and Mode 11?

Look forward to your response …

Mode 11 is Set RPM mode meaning head speed (once learned) will always be the same regardless of which pack you choose.

In Mode 4 head speed will vary pack to pack and is optimized each flight.

If your packs are all similar in age and performance run mode 4. If you have some crappy packs maybe you want to run M11 but teach RPM using your 'worst' pack.

That the gist of it, I'm sure a K rep will fill in the details regarding setting up M11.

Scott you nailed it. No additional explanation needed. Only comment I would add is just make sure not to do a no blades test run up unless you go back and reprogram before your first flight as it will store a head speed that is too high because it measured almost zero resistance from the system with no blades present.

Just thought I'd throw in that the mode being discussed is mode 5 on the Heli Jive 120HV+

Reviving an old thread here.. Do you know if Mode 4 holds the established head speed throughout discharge or will I lose head speed as the battery depletes?

Holds the same rpm throughout the discharge.

That's the whole point of the "governor"; maintenance of same head speed from beginning to end of the flight even as the battery depletes. The difference now with the later Kontronik ESC models is that you need to connect the newer Kontronik ESC's to the PC K-Konfig program to select the type of governor.

Not true, you can still stick program the governor type.

You can't, at least for Kolibri and JivePro.

That's is what the manual states, and my personal experience was, but according to Vinger, you can.

Mode 4 is the governor for helicopters.

There is a difference to the older ESC models and the later ones, but these are all in the manual for the specific ESC model. For example the HJive has mode 5 and mode 6.

On the earlier Kosmik firmware it was the same mode 4 for heli governor, but the later firmware change it so that gov store can only be added via K-Config.

So one needs to check model AND firmware for what can be programmed via sticks.

As far as I remember Gov store always had to be added with a progdisk on the Kosmik there was no mode 5 like the helijive.

All of the current product line up operate in the same way. You program mode 4 and then have to use either a progdisk or progunit to add gov store.
