thx for the report, Chris! once again a real open minded attempt showed the same result. so at least we can say: it was no prejudice - vbar & Spektrum is not the 'best' idea thx again for sharing your experiences!

Ciao
Michael

nb: ... the weakness for me once again (this time vs. vbar & Spirit) is unfortunately the Tx.... but do not take me wrong, as long as you are happy with it, there is no reason to change of course! it's just an observation proven to me again and again.

I've flown with SPektrum DX9 for the first two years of learning rc helicopters. I flew with mini VBars setting them up first on the computer, then using integration with the 4649T receiver, and thought that was the best things were going to get. I did the same integration setups with Brain2 and also with Spirit FBLs, and eventually decided I liked the way the Spirit units work over IK2N or Spektrum (I had a couple 7200 FBLs that I played with for awhile before selling them).

Then i got a deal on a VBar Control Touch, and he included a VBar NEO with the deal. I upgraded to Pro/Rescue, put it on a heli and went to the field. No need to set up with computer, the transmitter does it all for you.

Now I've got a bunch of Spirit FBLs that I LOVE but I wish I could use them with the VBar transmitter. I agree with previous poster that Spirit Rescue is more versatile.

I had an Oxy 4 with VBar VLink that I tried to rescue out of a bad situation last week, and it was so close to the ground that when it flipped over it basically scraped the grass with the main blades and plowed into the dirt. I think the Spirit with Acro-mode inverted rescue would have saved the heli ... just my 2 cents.

I love the way Spirit FBLs fly, and Tomaz has been amazing for customer service and fixing issues I've had, even sending the devices back to Czech for service and return was hassle free. Spirit is really good. However, for ease of use and flexibility in the field during maiden and set up of a new model, the VBar control wins hands down, even against the DX9 with integration.

One thing that occurs to me —*the newer Spirit RS is integrating with Jeti a lot like VBar does. No separate receivers required, full integration from the transmitter. I've never owned a JEti, but I imagine that experience is similar to the VBar Control

Itís not even close to Vbar and Vcontrol. Itís the same sort of slow interface as you see on Spektrum with Ikon or Spirit, identical to the interface that any Spirit has with Jeti. Thereís some huge downsides to having Mikado control everything in the radio and FBL, but it provides a fast and simple interface that none of the other setups can touch when it comes to programming and tuning.

Iíve bought them all, Axon, Brain2, Spirit (Pro, 2, and RS), iX12, iX20, Jeti Ds12 and DS16, FrSky as well as Neo and both versions of the Vcontrol. Nothing comes close to the ease of setup and tuning of the Mikado setup. Flexibility, cost, and variety Mikado loses big time, but nothing else touches the out of the box setup and tuning they offer.

don't forget the close integration with two brands of ESC (YGE and Scorpion (actually, i've never tried this one but I hear its the same) ). The integration is so close, it seems like they are Mikado products as well.

Iíve got both of those with Vcontrol, they both work great and program from the radio. One nice thing Scorpion has that YGE doesnít is you can reverse motor rotation from the Vcontrol.

On the YGE, I don't even think its possible to reverse the motor even on the pc software.

Two features that Tribunus (and Kontronik) has that YGE does not.

1) Motor reverse rotation function. The only way to reverse motor rotation with a YGE ESC is to physically disconnect and reconnect two of the three motor wires.

2) Mah consumption limit. Tribunus (and Kontronik) offer the option to set a mah consumption limit beyond which the motor will slow down giving you about 30 seconds soft cutoff to land.
