Default Color screen replacement

Has anyone looked into replacing the black and white screens on our old DS14/DS16 screens with the new color screens?

I would doubt a colour screen is a drop in upgrade. It likely needs a different controller on the main circuit board, almost certainly uses a different connection, and will have to run different firmware too.

Unless you know enough about electronics and hardware design to dig into all this, and can find a way to upgrade all of that I doubt you could make this work.

Making it a drop in replacement makes sense to me. I'm sure new firmware would be required, but retooling motherboards, graphics controllers, etc, etc, etc, is an expensive proposition for a relative simply V2 upgrade. The smart play is to do it within the framework they already have. Maybe wishful thinking, but I can hope.

Color screen is slightly smaller in size.

I emailed the company last month to see if it is possible to replace the screen to a colored one on the DS-14 The answer was NO . They want you to buy a new transmitter.

Like I said, this is not a case of simply replacing the screen and calling it a day. Something like this is a major specification change and needs new control boards designing, testing and building, it will run entirely different firmware which also needs coding, testing and maintaining.

You won't see this as a cheap upgrade for an existing radio, it's just not practical. No RC vendor is going to do that.

Your 1958 RCA black-and-white TV won't upgrade to color either--it's not just the screen involved and it's not a Jeti decision just to make you upgrade your transmitter.

Even if it was just the screen, just think about all the different owners, that can’t even bind a RX…..and you would expect them to strip completely the TX to remove swap the screen, then swap what ever boards is required and re-connect all the connectors…..

Just think about the possible outcome…burned board…screen they sold me is broken…blame blame blame…….ect ect

It’s a wise decision not sell upgrade, beside it probably wouldn’t be cheap.

Still using my Gen 1 Jeti's with the monochrome screen just fine. The color screen alone while nice is not enough to make me want to upgrade yet.

As others have already stated swapping screens would require a bit more than just a swap of the screen units. Connector ribbon for the color screen is probably different (more connections), different driver software loaded on the circuit board, and some additional differences that would make this change unfeasible.

I have not needed to access the screen on my Jeti's, but it doesn't appear very easy to get to the screen without some substantial effort and risk of damaging or scratching the black screen case and/or the clear plastic cover around the LCD unit.

Also, has any transmitter manufacturer ever released a LCD upgrade for customers to install? I can't think of any.
