Default 12S setups?

I'm REALLY tempted to give the RAW a go as my first 700 size model, and was curious what the verdict is on 12S setups: are most using two independent 6S batteries, or buying the 12S stick packs? It would appear the 12S packs are slightly more convenient as the cables are already the correct length, but can't share packs with my 580 etc.

For those using two 6S packs, how are you extending the wires? Adding an extension with bullets so you can convert it to 6S for other models?

If anyone has some pictures of how they wired it up, I'd love to see them!

I run both. No need to extend the wires for the 2-6S packs for my setups.

+1. No need to extend the battery leads.

Which ESC are you running and how is it oriented? Also, are most rocking 5000mah 6S packs? Hoping to share the same packs with my Kraken 580.

I think the majority of the time its in how you connect your packs in series. For instance, I use the RC ProPlus single (neg/pos separate) connectors that hook up a different way to get 12S. Others use actual y-connectors as a separate piece (don't recommend this) to get to 12S and others still, do a y-connection at the ESC - which is using something like an EC5 connector at each the positive and negative coming off the ESC and then running a jumper cable from the neg to pos between the 2 connectors, which is basically a jumper cable to the open spot left on the two EC5 connectors.

Once you figure how you plan to do that...then you can figure out how or if your battery connections work with 6S singles or need 12S stick pack.

Iím running a Kosmik 200. The leads are fairly long. Jrman makes a valid point; how you connect your pack in series. I am using the S6 connectors so connecting everything is easy.

Stick packs are nice I like them better than 2-6 packs!

I'll be using S7's all around moving forward, so will do as jhamel suggested (and you by the sounds of it) connect one pos/neg of each lipo together and then run the others into two leads off the ESC. I've seen the "Y" setup with two connectors + jumper off ESC, but that would necessitate using a stick pack and/or lengthening the rearward most batteries cables.

I will be picking up one stick pack just to toy around with, and then sharing the packs I picked up for the 580. The leads on the YGE are a tad short, so we'll see how it goes

Sounds like the S6/7 are a good way to go. I still think the removable cables on the Kosmik ESC's are awesome, and that extra length certainly helps in this case.

If you have any 6S packs that are similar in length, don't have to be what you plan to use, use them to do a mock-up of what you plan to do or to figure out what you have to do.

Yup, once everything gets here I'll get thing dialed in. I'm just ordering the one stick pack for the time being.

Here is an example of Y at the ESC. This is on an Oxy 5 MEG. One mounts the two 6s packs facing each other on the battery tray such that the leads are in the middle of the pack. As you insert the pack into the model, you pull the leads out each side so that you can plug one into each. Works great for the Oxy 5 MEG and the Specter 700. May not work on SAB models (particularly the Krakens) due to body pieces in the way. I wouldn't know. I don't have any.

One nice thing about using the supra s6 connecters or any single bullet connecter is being able to hook up a single 6s pack to do setup.

I do that whenever I need to program my esc or do fbl setup.

It reduces the danger of unexpected motor startup and with the battery laying infront of the heli it's easy to yank it away to disconnect it from the heli.

I'll have to do as suggested and see what is most practical on the RAW - though it seems it would work well with the Y-setup that fiddle posted due to the openness of the design.

I already have a bunch of S7 connectors sitting here, but think I have a pack or two of D6's as well.

I appreciate all the input
