Well sometimes its good to chat about nothing these days what with the C word nonsense going on

Busy working online but I was really struck by the tiny size of the frame assembly, very nicely made mind

So far fiddled with the servos getting the gears and arm centred using a servo tester, for the cyclic servos I found looking from the bottom of the servo against a light background helped to gauge the centre position of the drive gear.

Toss up between or build, maybe over the weekend

Maidened this weekend and got 7 flights in. 6S3300 lipos. 4-5 mins depending rpm with 40-50% remaining. Setup is 1,000-1450. Beautiful flyer! Visibility great. Was surprised that the canopy left right single colours didn't impact orientation. Went with white main blades. No problems with blade visibility. The sound at 1000 rpm is just golden!

My future go to heli for relaxing flights

Maidened mine today, my new favourite hei! I'm getting 11 minute flights from 'el-cheapo' Hobbyking Zippy 5s 4500mAh 35C packs running 1250rpm. No shortage of performance at that headspeed.

I did a bit of a tidy up on my wiring. Reversing the ESC makes a much neater install. Shortening the wires saved 29g

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how many were produced in each batch / total number produced?

I have managed to get a super nice 2nd hand one as it's still uncertain if there will be another batch. Just received it yesterday, so still have to setup everything.

Nice flying, what headspeeds were you running?

Default maiden done :-)

I finally maidened mine today. My first surprise is that it's not as different as I expected. But this is surely because I was already fairly used to low headspeed, light -ish 700s and 800s, although not nearly as light as the TDSF.

The remarkable thing is that the TDSF is doing it all with so much less power!

Two things I am not sold on:

1. The tail-dragger landing gear setup. It's just too easy to catch the tail on some grass, it's really not a preferable thing.... it's a compromise as part of a weight-saving goal. I will look into adapting more conventional skids where the tail is not touching the ground. Yeah maybe I could get used to it, but it's just bad.... there is no good side to it.

2. The two-tone milled canopy. I think I will always prefer a solid colour background with a contrasting windscreen.

Anyway, it's early days yet. I do like it though, and I think I'm going to like the long flight times on a single pack :-)

A agree on the landing gear. I've got a TDR2 with retracts which is similar taildragger configuration, but even when you get used to it he heli does feel a little unstable on the ground. Sure enough the one and only issue I've had so far was a tip-over after landing, which luckily thanks to long grass caused no damage at all.

It's one of those things that, in the right conditions, might be totally fine. Like if you had a pristine, snooker-table-flat and mowed field. And I'd love a field like that, but alas, this is not the case at my field.

... I don't want to sound negative... :-o Massive kudos to Jan for achieving something that I would not have thought possible (not to this degree anyway).

What I think about now, in reflecting on my maiden flights, is how crazy it is that such a tiny motor was doing that! And mine has a Scorpion (3226) and it came down cool - everything runs totally cool, like it's not even breaking a sweat.

I think the landing «*gear*» feels weird because it is not what we are used too. I do have to tell myself that I have to land the tail first time out (same with the TDR2).
Come to think of it, I do have to tell myself on subsequent flight too.

What amazes me the most with this helicopter is how light it is every time I pick it up to go fly.

Thanks Jan for an amazing piece of engineering. A helicopter I am glad to have in my stable probably because it is so different (TDR2 too).

It's simply fantastic having a heli this light! Makes it so easy to handle, at home as well, it's just so convenient.

I love this heli. So light, easy to transport and such light lipos to go too. First heli that I've dared work on hurricanes. Turns out one doesn't need high head speed to go fast Only one link to repair, soon to be RTF. Good auto test

Default Next batch

I had a quick look on the website today and I see that it says the last batch of 200 for 2021 sold out. Obviously, we know it sold out, but I had not noticed previously the figure of 200 specifically.

Sooooo, looking at the 'want to buy' listing in the shop, it shows 142 available. Could it be that only 58 people have registered their interest in getting one? I would have guessed more than that.

And then, I have to wonder, at what number will they decide it's enough to do a batch.
