Try a used DJI for that money. Reason is that I have had a mavic and now a spark, these are great drones with equally great photo and video options. Cannot comment on other brands unfortunately but after owning these 2 and what you get, I doubt I would even bother looking at another brand, at least at this point with not a great deal of competition.

The Mavic mini would be under $400. If you go with the bigger one you are looking at like $800+ unless you can find something used.

The newer model the Mini 2 is around $449

DJI Mavic Mini 2. Can't get more bang for your buck. Avoid the off brand stuff, I like cheaper stuff more than most, but there is DJI and there are flying headaches.

In my opinion yes, very hard to find anything that would come close. Would be very surprised if you were disappointed with a DJI.

Thanks guys. What about this one, what do you think? Is it as good as the DJI or anything it doesn't have compare to the DJI?

Never heard of that brand. 46 mins of flight time is questionable at best. This one is a buy at your own risk and if its no good then there is potential to ruin the experience for your friend and possibly throw money away. But i don't no anything about this brand so I don't want to completely shoot it down, do some research on the brand and try to find others experiences with it before buying.

Reading I see the 46 minutes of flight is using two batteries at 23 minutes each. So it's already a deceiving spec. Also the Chinglish makes me worry. If you're buying a cheap drone I'd say no worries but this kind of money is an investment especially to a kid. I have a couple of under $30 ones which I consider disposable.

"Fly More Kit (46 Mins of Flight): Each intelligent battery support23 minutes of flight; 2 batteries included prolong your sky trip to 46 minutes."

Let's pretend they're not fibbing on specs, and it flies great.

The cheap quads are a phone update from not working. Google or Apple will push out an updated OS, Holy Smoke won't update their app, what are you going to do with it? If it was $150..ok... want to save some money, just buy the 1 instead of the 2, want to save even more, buy used, you can get them for 50 cents on the dollar or less for flown once or twice examples. People get these for Christmas gifts and fly them on the 25th and never again.

I see your points and I'm just wondering. I don't want this purchase to be like a holiday toy but more like a serious hobby equipment Looks like I will go with DJI to be sure and from reccomendation. I looked it up a little bit last night and very good reviews too. Thanks again!

The Mini 2 is amazing. The airframe is tiny yet flies great in sport mode. It's also pretty durable. Lots of great engineering went into that tiny quad. I got one myself a couple months ago along with the DJI FPV model.
