My only concern is I have a 24 volt voltage regulator for my fans, I will just have to check and see how much over 24 volts it can take.

24v chargers and psu can have some serious issues when charging 6s lipo as the charger goes through a buck to boost transition. Some chargers will oscillate between buck and boost and this can cause problems for generators or in some cases, for the psu. If you can, it is better to use a psu/charger that runs up around 26-27v if you're doing a lot of high power 6s lipo charging.

I have always heard this but with my setup I have been charging 6s packs mostly on a 24 volt power supply for 10 years or so and never had this issue. With the new supply it may be a problem, I will have to see.

It really depends on the exact equipment combo and you may not notice it at all if running off mains instead of a generator.

I remember one setup running off a ... Generac iq2000?... and it would sound like the generator was having a heart attack or something.

There are two types of voltage converting DC to DC, one to increase the voltage and one to decrease. When the pack voltage, ie the voltage output of the charger, matches the input then it has to switch to the other type. It seems during the period where the voltages are similar, the charger oscillates between the two methods causing this pulsing sound. For 6S this voltage is 24V.

Hey Guys.

The buck/boost transition has only really shown itself on generators where they have been set to auto-throttle, this allows them to ramp and down according to load. So it's not there running at full power unless necassary.
So the RPM bounce as said above starts when the voltage demands in the charger changes as it crosses over from buck (reduce) to boost (increase), which is the point at which the charging LiPo voltage matches that of the input volts from the PSU and all load drops away from the generator. At this point with no load on it, the generator is sat there pulsing as it does not know what to do.
Remove the auto-throttle and the problem usually goes away.

One idea that could be tried is to add another additional small load on the generator so it always has some applied to it, a small light bulb perhaps.

Default Post your charger case

Changing from a 2-charger setup to a 4-charger setup using the same PSU and case.

What it was:

What it will be in a couple days:

I don’t do any of that fancy flush mounting for the chargers, so they’ll be taped to the deck as before.

I love this thread and watching the creativity of all but have some of you seen the new ISDT X16 and other all in one from the brand?

I think it is going to change the charger case game being all in one at a very reasonable price considering all you get.
Get a case put the charger in it you have a charger case

https://www.progressiverc.com/collec...ducts/isdt-x16

Still love the cases in the thread.

I personally believe we may see more of the smaller $225.00 ISDT K4 than the larger $629.00 ISDT X16 sibling in our circle.

I started a case with 4 ISDTs on the deck, but it looked such a mess with the leads, I haven't progressed with it. I'm interested to see how yours turns out.

Each charger has a 1 foot XT60 cable extender and a 1 foot balance extender. Total of 8 feet of wires that I need to stuff in there plus the 2 foot or so AC power cord. It does take a minute or two to stuff everything away.

The 6 adapters I have fit fine up top. Not sure where to put my voltage tester though.

Can ISDT users comment on the software? Is it functional enough to completely hide the charger under the deck?

I'm working with an X16 and trying to figure out my case configuration.

For the Q8 (and other similar models probably) the only thing you MIGHT want to access is the computer USB port for firmware updates. There are no other physical things to do down there. As long as you can press the buttons on top, you’re good.

Ian did a really nice one with the ISDTs below the deck. Some pics at the end showing the internals. Quite a deep case though.

Is it possible to completely control the charger through the software? Its a lot easier to build a case if you can hide the entire charger under the deck.

I meant the Q8, not the P50, sorry.

What do you mean through “the software?” The ISDT Go Bluetooth software? Or via the buttons on top?

Due to USPS shenanigans, I do not as yet have pictures to post. Soon! I'm excited!
