Question Vertical tail fin too short? Please help

Hi all,

The vertical tail fin on my Tarot 450 pro v2 fbl Heli is too short! I keep damaging my Torque Tube and tail drive spindle with even light landings as the tail blades clip the grass (or ground as the vertical tail fin flexes)

I have put a small packer between the back of the skids and the main body which has raised the tail but does anyone know how I can extend the vertical tail fin please???

Thank you

Blade

With the model sat on the bench how much gap is there between the blades and bench?

It might be your landing procedure needs changing to more nose down.

An easy fix to lengthen the fin is to use piano wire. Make a loop and secure it to front edge and rear edge of fin extending down as far as you need.

Thanks for the reply Andy

I have an inch and a half from blade to bench (only half an inch from blade to vertical tail fin tip)

I`ve got used to safe landings as I have a practise golf ball stuck to the vertical tail fin on my Blade 400! The blades have never touched the ground

I do need to work on my landings and I`ll try the Piano wire or I have some carbon fibre rod?

Cheers

Blade

A rod might stick in the ground whereas the loop of wire should act like a spring.

Oh, the joys of learning on a TT Heli… I remember those days well! I fabricated a longer tail fin out of cheap fiberglass sheet bought on eBay. I think it was $3 or $4. Printed circuit board would work too if you have an electronics store near you. Just use your current tail fin as a pattern and extend it. I think Andy has the best solution though, as any carbon fiber or glass part is going break with little abuse.

Tarots are essentially 1:1 compatible with Align 450s I believe. If this is true, you could put Trex 470 skids on there and give it a bit of forward rake/lean. Bolts straight on.

I'm not at home to check, but the 470 vertical fin *may* bolt on as well. It's a bit longer than the 450's fin.
