Hmmm...never saw the tail blow either at 2200 head speed as someone mentioned.I'm going to assume the OP doesn't fly anywhere as good as you Thickfog,so his chances of blowing out the tail is very minimal especially if he's just hovering around and doing simple circuits.

Thanks Flipboy. You were correct just hovering and flying circles with the 380
And seen no reason to run this at 3,000 RPM’s in case of a blade strike
All of my practice is with a CMPX and a 230 blade. But when you see this 380 on the shelf you just get tempted to try it out, even if it’s only hovering

IMHO, head speed has nothing to do with the “twichyness” when using an FBL heli. The FBL unit will feed in as much pitch as it takes to attain the preset roll/pitch rate. I say this because I learned to fly in a trex 450 flybarred. In that heli, anything below 2600 rpm will make it almost uncontrolable. I then bought another trex and went FBL on it, using a k-bar FBL unit. It was so stable it felt almost as cheating in comparison. From 2400 to 3000+ rpm, the roll rate feels almost the same. In the flybar one, even a 100 rpm bump is noticeable. Since I am relatively inexperienced, my goal is to go with the lowest rpm I can, in order to increase flight time. The limiting factor, as I see it, is always the tail. If you go too low in headspeed, the tail will not have enough authority to hold the tail when you feed in a healthy amount of collective. Experiment: how low can you go with the tail still solid, then add 100 rpm to that, just to be safe. Then work on the cyclic response using the agility setting on the fbl and dual rates and expo on the tx. For the record, for learning, I used 50% D/R and about 15-20% expo. That should give you a docile and stable heli to practice hovering manoeuvres. Another advice I give is: forget the +/- 13 degrees pitch curve with 0 at center stick. For hovering practice, I recommend using a F3C pitch curve with hover pitch (5 degrees) at midstick, and 0 degrees at low stick. It will give a much better resolution and avoid going up and down like a maniac. Some will argue that you should not do this, because it will be hard to progress to 0 pitch at midstick later on. I think not. You should be able to master both configurations, starting with the easiest one first. I am by no means an authority on this, just sharing my experience. I thaught myself how to fly an heli and this is how I made it. One (light) crash so far in over a year I have been on this, flying almost every day. Take care.
