Default V-Stabi Beginners guide - Contribution 1 - Hookup

Edited Nov 2 20:00 CST - Diagrams now updated (so you don't have to read the entire thread to find the accurate diagrams).

First struggle I had was hookup; where to plug things in? If wrong, would I burn up my brand new toy?? I played for a while with just the "football" controller, base unit, sensor, and an RX battery. Then it was time for servos and an RX>

I finally figured it out from the diagrams in the manual, but they are hard to interpret and are wrong in a couple of places. So, this diagram something I threw together quickly.

Note: These are the updated diagrams, with the suggestions that follow already incorporated. Thanks, everybody!

I would also add the wire going to the gyro sensor for clarity. One thing I found that the Mikado diagrams lacked was which side the black lead was supposed to go to. In the end I believe the black wire on the connector was towards the top of the vbar unit. If you can incorporate that into your diagram as well I think it'll be useful to someone.

BTW great idea.

Just an FYI, to post on the Wiki, you need permission from ulrich. If not I can post it. We are trying to keep the english and german versions similar / the same. I've mostly just corrected some translations and spelling. I'm keeping out of the writing for now until I understand the system better.

I think what you are doing is a great idea, it really is needed from a user point of view.

IN this whole process if there is any need to do some German-English, English-German translation I would volunteer my help.

My wife is German and it is all we speak at home, I lived in Germany for 7 years hence my ability to speak it.

great thread !!

I got my v-bar setup last week. But had the same beginner questions like the orientation of the servo connectors and the wiring diagram in the manual was wrong.
This will sure help starters to speed up the setup process.
Also te videos of Mercuriell are a great help. But since the software has changed the menu's shown in the video's are not all applicable anymore.

Yesterday I started tweaking the settings in extended mode. So far I'm really happy with the V-bar

Aussiemick, THANK YOU. We will collaborate on some things... let me do some cleanup on that diagram, and then I'll pass it by you for the German version

I started setting up my V-bar unit last night on the MSH Protos. With no factory head, or preset settings to go on it's been pretty rough. I'm trying to learn the how the system works and why things need to be the way they are. I've read the entire wiki back to front several times and I still have questions. I feel the system has the potential to be very easy to setup, we are just missing some key information from the wiki and an English easy setup wizard.

I did notice that the instructions in the manual for connecting servos are wrong in the manual. The other signal wire needs to be marked on the v-bar unit OR included in the manual. The signal wire should be down (towards the keyed tab).

Ping if I were you i'd probably start with a Trex500 preset. I don't think the numbers would be too far off and would get you in the ball park as far as settings go.

Looks good.

Slight typo on the bottom of V5 to 5V.

The polarity of the servo leads threw me off also , what i did was to plug in a futaba servo lead with the keyed tab , then i could see which one is neg.

The 8v / 7100 setup , might be thought of as a split leads like a 401 servo.

Another note you may want to include is that the manual shows the collective as channel 1 for the JR/graupner (and spectrum). I have a new black sensor version and the manual still hasn't changed this.

Your diagram does show the correct way ( aux1 to collective ) but if one were to be reading the book and following your diagram it could get missed.

I can't say if the rest of diagrams are correct as i only have jr/spectrum radios.

Great stuff here.

Martin

Nice scheme

Yeah about the new black sensor, when i switched to extended and ultra mode for the first time in the software, it asked me about what sensor I have. Choice was E or V sensor I believe...not sure aymore. And that leaves me with the question where can i find out or change this setting? I googled I wikied....can't find anything on that subject.

Another thing that kind of bothers me is that the sensor connector is put on the "back" side of the unit. I wish it could be on the other side where al the other connections are as wel. Right now the unit is in the back of my heli and the sensor connector is "sticking" out.... maybe i will fix this with hot glue or something...It's to critical to have a bad connection here

Yeah, and mine is a bit loose fitting. Not confidence inspiring. I've arranged the wire to be "tight" on purpose to help hold the connector. Hot glue (and some wire slack for vibration) is probably a better answer.

Connection Diagram: Receiver- Vbar (Spektrum Rx CCPM Heli)
Verkabelung Spektrum Empfaenger - Vstabi CCPM Hubschrauber

Always plug in this way for 3 servo CCPM, Regardless of K1 in front or back of heli.
(set front/back later in Vstabi SoftWare)

Egal ob K1 vorner oder hinten liegt, servos wird immer wie im bild ausgelegt.
(Es wird spaeter im Vstabi SoftWare eingestellt ob vorner oder hinten)

ESC or Throttle Servo
Regler oder Gas Servo

Spektrum AR 6100,7000, 7100, 7100R, 9000, 9100 all suitable. These Rxs and the Vstabi may be operated between 5 and 8.4V. Tail servo may require separate Regulator if system is over 5V.

To use a regulator built in to the 7100 and 7100R, special wiring is needed for the tail servo: Connect Signal to Vstabi andpower to the 5V bus in the RX.

Um das eingebauten regulierung von die AR7100 and 7100R empfaenger zu benutzen, bitte das heck servo signal draht in Vstabi einstecken und die +ve und –ve draehte in das 5V steckplatz in empfaenger einstecken.

Optional: Aux on Vstabi to either GEAR or AUX2 on Spektrum Rx.
This Allows “Bank Select” from TX with GEAR or AUX2 switch, and/or mixers triggered by Flight Mode switch.

I am sure some of the native speaking German Freaks could tidy it up a bit more, but I reckon it is pretty close.

I'm just acquainting myself with the new software and I'll do a new vid - tried the Logo 500 plug in and had a minor smack - the lag time was way tooooo slow on the cyclic so I'm having a fiddle with the settings find out what is wrong !

The connection video is still current

BTW - great thread - I'll sticky it and make a reference in Techno Central

Just to add info to the recent V-Stabi Wiki events. We have decided to add a "User Wiki" that any logged in member of the wiki board can change and add to at will. It may take a little while until we get it going but it is a go.

We hope that this will allow users to clarify the parts of the wiki that are lacking information while still keeping V-stabi designers in the loop to keep the info correct and recent.

The control panel software has it's differences from the pc software.. A little CP wiki would also be nice if there is a wish list.

John, interesting you had problems with the 500 preset. When I first setup my 500 I used that preset and while the cyclic was tame it was actually a decent setup to base a first flight on and do trimming with. Is the lag you are talking about just slow cyclic, or some sort of delayed control loop response?
