Default Oh, the memories

I picked up an original Heliboy back in the spring. It has all the original mixing levers in place and an HP .61 engine and Heliball muffler installed. After buying it I pulled it completely apart, cleaned and regreased all bearings, checked runout on the start shaft, polishes all the metal surfaces, balanced and went over the original wood blades and reset all the gears meshs . I hung it on the wall for the summer but about a week ago I installed four servos and a receiver and battery in it. yesterday evening I went over it again and did a basic setup on the blade pitch.

This morning after letting it warm up a bit, I took it outside and fueled it up to see if I could still manage a heli with no gyro and all mechanical mixing for the throttle/pitch and tail. It flies. Well, it hovers anyway. It took a while to get the main needle set and the blades in track, but it has plenty of power for what it is and there is no shake in the heli or foaming in the tank. The wing was gusting pretty good and changing directions, so I've yet to get the tail really settled down, but it's getting close. Hard to believe I learned my first forward flight and basic aerobatics on a Heliboy.

Now if I can only find a Canopy for it.

Gotta love the old ones we had way back. There is nothing keeping you from putting a tail gyro on it unless you want to keep it completely original.
You could always put one on and turn it off when you like. Picture ?

I have two Kraft KG-1 gyros. If I put one in the Heliboy it will be one of them so it will be period correct, but I want to play with a while set up just like the one I had back around 80 or 81. If I put a gyro in it I'll probably also put a separate servo in it for the throttle. That's how my Heliboy ended up before I sold it to someone.

I'll wait till I locate a canopy for it before I take any pictures.
