Thanks, jamin! The EPIC is a great heli, very well built and very beefy. As far as comparing them, IMHO, they are not comparable. They are both purpose built helis, but built for different purposes. The TDR is built for speed and the EPIC is built for HARD 3D. Now obviously, you can do the other with each heli, but that's not their purpose. That being said, speed is more my thing and I was thinking about experimenting with a speed setup with my EPIC, maybe including a full fuse down the road. Their is just so much room for power and the gear train is so beefy, that I think you could load it up and make it move, and move quickly. By the way, hope you got your TDR rebuilt.

Cool, just what I wanted to know
I would be thinking MD800 with Pyro 850 and Kosmik 200. Is there room for that lot? Is there an online manual anywhere? haha, cheers. I did not rebuild it, rekit and maidened last weekend.

Plenty of room for that, I would think, very easily, plenty of room. I'm current running a Scorpion HK-5020-450 with a Castle 120HV. Here's a pic of them mounted.... ..

Honestly, I don't fly hard 3D, but I would say, to be safe, no. I'd go with a bigger ESC and my Scorpion is not all powerful. This was a beginning "budget" type build with the plan to change to a power setup later, for testing purposes. However, I flew it on 6s over the weekend and loved it. Its currently heard a hair to low, but I'm almost thinking something scale. Either way, I will be different with it. It will either become a scale bird, or a speed demon.

That's exactly what I was concerned about since it's a 800 size heli thanks.

The helicopter in the 700 or 80 configuration is a monster for hard 3D.
Obviously the right motor and ESC is a necessity but the helicopter itself with the right power system is a monster. If you have any other questions, please let us know. The kit is on sale now as well for iRCHA at $749 and comes with both the 700 and 800 parts in the kit. |

Question about the machining quality on the aluminum parts, is it done inhouse? Is the main gear CNC cut? What about the pinion gear? |

Thanks for the question.
We've not had any problems with "broken" canopies other than a slight crack. This isn't very common and we are always willing to replace or offer a 50% discount on a full and brand new replacement so that you can have 2 canopies and use one for practice and the other as your "show" canopy. This has worked really well for anyone that has had a slight flaw in the canopy. All of the machining is done by our manufacturer, the head is real 7075 aluminum and we have yet to have a single QC issue with any kit. The main gear is molded and the pinion is steel as is the tail drive gear. We gauruntee that you will not strip a gear in flight and if you do then we will replace that gear for you. Any other questions just let us know! |
