Did compass stop making the odin? if so why?
just curious because I don't see the kit for sale at any of the vendors sites.

I think the dealers just choose not to carry them as it wasn't a very popular kit. Compass still has a bunch of kits and parts, so you should be able to get one without too much trouble. Might have to email your particular vendor to special order it for you I'd guess. I wouldn't mind playing with one myself, I've always been curious about the electric cooling fan concept. I remember they were supposed to be very light too.

There are still a few Odin kits available when I checked last month .... if you're interested, you should contact a Compass dealer in your country and they can order you one.

Guys, is there a reason yous team type pilots aren't flying them? Often the 90 is the flag ship of power and demonstation...

I mean, I know the 3D+ and 6HV are bread and butta, but I've not seen anything with the Odin, since, like, a Petr Novotny vid.

i flew the odin for a while and had really good luck with it. it was extremely light, and then came along the 6HV and i needed servos so i took them out of the odin lol. and i need a new engine, i would fly it, its just a lot of money for me to get going again.

I almost bought Airworks' Odin 90V2 and know it would have been a blast, but my couple of seasons with the Outrage 550 on 6S was enough to sell me on going a little muy grande with electric - 12S

Damn... if y'all need someone to bite the bullet and are keen on a 90 ..... I guess I could put the 6HV off for a bit and build the Odin V2.

I could use a bird to test the new KME 110 engine in anyways.

The wife is going to love this.....

Yup... I'm addicted.

That said, I spoke with Luke last night and asked him about the Odin. I understand the only problem with the Odin is the belt when doing certain specific 3D manouvers can wear out quickly.

I think I'm still going to build one... for demo purposes... LOL! Actually, I have had several requests from people locally and in the next province to see these helis in person. Interest is certainly building for Compass up here.

haha guys guys
I was just curious. I don't want this post to be the reason CC ends up in the dog house with his wife.
Me I'm very content with my 6hv at the moment.
But I think a 90 is in my long term future (2 years), and if compass has a 690-710 size bird that is also N then I would prefer to go with it rather than another manufacturer.

I would like a bird I could practice F3C schedule for more than 6 minutes.

"I've always been curious about the electric cooling fan concept. I remember they were supposed to be very light too."

I was too, and purchased a used one last Spring. It is extremely well made (like all Compass ships) and flies absolutely beautifully.

It feels much more like the Knight 3D than the 6HV in the air. It is very light for its size. Handling is very quick and very positive (mine is set up with KBDD Dampers and TWEE Paddles).

I think the concern over how the electric fan would perform and whether it would provide an added degree of complexity in set up, may have caused some to steer away from the Odin (which is a shame, because it is an excellent idea).

From a practical standpoint, the electric fan actually works very, very well. The motor stays cool with no issues. I did deviate from the stock configuration, as I installed a separate ESC for the fan (a CC one-not the fixed RPM one that comes with the Odin) so that I could mix the fan to the throttle (I can shut the fan off when on the ground with the battery connected or let it run a bit after the motor is shut off in order to prevent back heat-something you cannot do with a conventional fan).

I gave my Oden unbuilt to a friend here locally to build and try out. Richard you know him a little. Big Bob that hangs with the Carson crowd. Anyway he has many flights on it and loves the thing. Flys the snot out of it and as far as I know he hasnt had one problem. He was thinking of getting another one for an electric conversion.

I personally like the Odin a lot. I've always wanted one, but a 90 is just not in the cards for me. Getting fuel for my 50 was bad enough. I got to see Richard's at the last FF. It's a lot meaner in person than in the pics!

I really liked the ECS fan idea. I was hoping we would see it on the 50 or even 30 size machines seeing they lack more power than a 90. I never set one up so I can't say how much trouble it would be to get one working but it can't be any worse than setting up a motor/ESC for a small heli. Seems like everyone is making more of a push to get into E power rather than bothering with nitro anymore. Maybe that will mean nitro will come back down to realistic prices and be worth owning again. I'm pretty tempted to fix up my Knight again seeing Outrage fuel is only $80/case with shipping included.

I flew my Odin without any problems with the electric fan system. In fact it gave a special sound to the Odin, somewhat turbine like when i did a low pass. Very nice. As Skunk said, alot of guys are moving over to electric heli's, including me.

But the Odin is one mean machine, very light in the air, just like any other Compass heli with a ton of power. I still miss the thing but fuel cost also became to high for me.

Grtz,
Dirk
