6hvu headspeed
Quick question
Loving my 6hvu but find it doesnt have a hero of headspeed stock standard. We having a Goblin 630 and Align 600 at the field and they crank. But mine doesnt. Does anyone know rpm at 100% Too me it seems like it's not made for a crazy 3d machine. More lower quiter smooth 3d stuff Look forward to your replies Cheers Gavin

You can swap to a 12t pinion and crank the headspeed as high as you want. But its probably the sound of the helis that makes them seem like the head speed is screaming. The compass has a smooth and very quiet drive train. Trex have really noisy gears and goblins sound like vacuum cleaners amplified from the boom.

Yeah you could be right there. Everyone's amazed at how quite it is. I'd love to know what rpm they run at 100% all the headspeed calc I use don't seem to be right

I think mine is 2400 RPM at 100% throttle with a 530kV motor (BSM 4760), and it really shifts. I mostly fly 1600 or 2100 though.

2400 not to far off what I worked out. I'm running the new compass motor which I think is 505kv.
Maybe cause it is so quite that is why it sounds low. Ok Well I'll just keep on flying it as is then. Thinks

It doesnt need a ton of headspeed to fly well at all. If you feel its not enough, try raising the collective pitch some more. This heli is fast!

Try 14 degrees pitch at 2200-2300 and see how that goes.
Out of the 4 600 size machines I've owned the 6HVU is the most capable when it come to extreme 3d.

I run the stock 505kv motor with the 10t pinion. Vbar gov at 2050 and 11 degrees of pitch. I'd say its a mellow setup. I can hit 100mph on my speed passes with 25c Nanotechs. Oh yeah 626mm blades.I know lots of guys run them at 2300 and 13* pitch and it can handle it no problem.

Cool thanks guys. Sounds like my heli is fine. I might add some more collective pitch.

I run my 6HVU at 80% throttle on ST2 and get 2300 head speed.
It sounds a lot lower than 2300. It's very quiet. |

I am running 2020 RPM (tached) on mine for smooth 3D and conventional aerobatics.

+1 to swap to 12t pinion and try 2400 rpm and more...

I consider myself the type that likes really aggressive setups and my 6hvu is nuts at 2250 and 14 pitch. No reason to waste flight time running excessive headspeeds. More pitch is a better way to get pop.

6hvu headspeed
For 3d I'm agree that 2200 is a good compromise for flight time and agressive 3d flying.
The only reason to use very high headspeed il to make speed runs... 6hv ultimate is a very good machine to make speed. Strong heavy duty, speed shape canopy, 620mm+ blades, large lipos size. Tried 2800 rpm with rail 626, 14s lipos, nickmaxwell 4235 and yge 120hv. Probably a lot faster than some stock 700īs. Last edited by Stoparach; 07-05-2016 at 05:20 PM.. |

I'm running 80 flat on st1 and 98 flat on st2 and doesn't sound like around 2400 at 98% flat.lol

As much as I've always really liked Compass motors, they don't seem to carry as much torque as their Scorpion counterparts. I have an original 540Kv Compass motor in mine right now and it's still extremely quiet. The helical gear takes quite a bit of the grind out of it, but as mentioned, you can do more pitch to bring back the snap-crackle-pop you're probably looking for.
The best headspeed seems to be between 2200 and 2300 in my opinion. Not too fast, not too slow. Surprisingly, with 200-400 less rpm than most other 600 class machines the 6HV manages to outdo a lot of them. Of course, I admit some bias there. But it's not for a lack of trying other ships. I had a fusion 50 on 2700rpm that couldn't hold a candle to my 6. That one even had a Scorpion motor in it to boot; completely bone-stock on the 6.
