Smile My first MD and my first 700

Hello guys.
I'm in the works of gathering up all my electronics for an MD7 airframe I purchased from Chuck here on helifreak. Awesome guy to deal with everything came packaged meticulously and shipped fast.
I'm going with a Scorpion HKIII 4035 560kv 120 YEP ESC, Microbeast HD. Still shopping for servo's and blades though.
What pinon would you guys recommend for this motor? I fly mostly big air and mild 3d. I do give the collective hell so I can trade headspeed for torque.

What head speeds are you looking to get?

Stock pinion is a 13t with a 121t main gear equates to a 9.3 gear
ratio. On 12s, max head speed would be just over 3000, so you would have plenty of headroom.

also something to keep in mind is that scorpion motors don't always play well with YEP escs, according to scorpion.

WOW!!! 3000 head speed I think Ill go with the 12 tooth pinion. Thanks for the heads up on the YEP. I think I did see something about timing issues. I'm not looking for any particular head speed, I guess Ill just have to fly it and go from there.

I'm out in the road working so don't have my notes to look at but I believe I was running around 1900 on the 700 setup. When I get home tommorow night I will take a look at how I had it set up.

Ya LOL don't think Matt meant fly it at 3000 just that's what it's capable of. I was running a KDE 535 but don't remember which pinion, I believe 12 but would have to check. I obviously have too many Helis when I have to check my notes. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near you running 700mm blades at 3000 LOL.

Correct, that's just what it would be capable of, surely don't fly it at that head speed.

with the 560kv motor, you may get better performance with the 12t pinion. All escs are happy when flying in the 80% output range and above, anything less usually tends to over work the esc, at least from all my experience.

I was running 12s, 535kv KDE motor and 12t pinion.

Norm 1800
Idle 1 1900
Idle 2 2000 (never really used this but it was there)

The Heli will fly low head speeds great as well so just depends how you want to set it up.

Well I'm going with the 12 tooth then. Thank you for the awesome support guys. I do like the idea of a low head speed setup too.
Ill post a few pics as soon as the parts start rolling in.
