Default RATE MODE GYRO??

Hey Guys,

I want the option to fly my 450X in gyro rate mode. I know, I know, HH is better. But when I'm flying some relaxed scale stuff, Rate is better. I understand how to program the switch to switch between. My question is, do I center the servo and the Tail slider? or does rate mode require some trim?

I don't center in either mode. I usually put in about 15 degrees of right tail pitch to help the gyro compensate. Back in the day we also mixed in some tail pitch with collective increase. This was called "REVOLUTION MIXING".

The proper way to set up using HH is to first set the gain into the RATE MODE range, adjust the tail pitch as I stated above, and get a nice steady hover, with tail stick at center. Then switch to HH gain setting.

Hope this helps.

FWIW, I had some help fixing the exact same thing this past weekend.

This pretty well known scale competitor made a super simple recommendation ... start in rate mode and get it light on the skids. If you have to start feeding in a lot of rudder, you'll know it's not right and which direction you need to go. Make adjustment and try again. By the third liftoff, it was spot on.
