Question Champion/Scout .60

Does anyone have some up close pics of either heli? I got a sweet vintage fuselage originally built for them that I am going to throw the 600n into. I need to see the original mounting areas, particularly the back, underside and tail boom. The pics I caught off google are not the best.

No tail boom was used in the full body fuselages with Champion mechanics. The tail gear was mounted in the fibreglas tail and a drive rod ran down the inside of the fuse boom in a supported tube to the mechanics. Required careful alignment of the output from the main gear with the tail drive, but the flexible wire shaft allowed for some misalignment. Same deal with the servo control rod -ran down in a nylon pushrod tube.

Much like 60something says. I had the Long Ranger with a Champion mechanicsinstalled. The fuse came with a longer than standard drive wire (mine didn't have a flexible shaft) that ran inside a brass tube. The brass tube was epoxied to 2 or 3 plywood formers. The T/R gearbox was mounted to the vertical fin which had a wood skeleton and a plastic shell. The control rod was a nyrod like setup with a section that was rigid. These were parts with specific part numbers.

You could run a boom in it, but will prolly have to cut the 'glass boom off where it joins the fuse. Then knock out the formers that are epoxied in and support the Trex600 tailboom inside the fuselage near the T/R gearbox. There should be plenty of room inside there.

The biggest problem with the build was the alignment of everything. I had an OS.61 ABC Long Stroke with an OS pump. It was very fast in forward flight even by todays standards, but I was always cracking motor mounts because they were pressed sheet metal. To replace them, I had to remove the mechanics. That was time consuming, but reinstalling was worse. So much so, I gave the fuselage away and have flown only pod and booms since. When I flew it without the fuse, no cracked motor mouints. Don't know why.
