Default Castle ESC Problems.

Just got a chance to maiden my 270CFX and had a good flight. Went to plug in the battery for a second flight and had a pop, flash and smoke from the bottom of the ESC where the big caps are.

I'm sure Horizon will replace it but I have never been a fan of Castle and dont want to have issues in flight. Is anyone esle running a different ESC and does it fit well in the stock location?

Which ESC are you running?

the "pop" sounds like a capacitor blow out.

id contact horizon get it replaced, second pack ever through it I'm sure it was a faulty ESC

as for an upgrade, I'm not super familiar with this heli. So i can't help you there, but what i can suggest is looking through pics and see what everyone else runs as a replacement ESC, that what I've done in the past.

Hobbywing potentially?

Yeah, I come from surface and I am a big Hobbywing guy. Trying to figure out where to stick a Platinum v3 50amp on there... dont think it's going to fit in the stock location.

Hmmm. You didn't try to push in the connectors back to front. It can be done. I've found Castle make good stuff. But they will fail if there is a short somewhere, like a motor burn up, water short or battery connected back to front. Have a look at the motor windings as well, they should be bright copper.

Thanks, but I swapped an XT60 on and it would be pretty damn hard to plug one of those in backwards.

Horizon sent out a replacement, but I ordered a Hobbywing v4 60a and WiFi module as well. I am going to try and cram that one in there before I go to back to the Talon.
