I glued a series of two carbon fiber rods across the bottom of the landing gear where the struts come down to the skids. Land hard and never have the splits that eventually break the legs of the LG. They are working fine and the frame is upholding better. I say upholding better because I broke it in the middle put it back together with CA at the split which probably was a result of the hard landings. Well It hasn't given me any problems either after bracing the skids. This is a good strong mod.

I have done the mod and I am yet to break the landing skids... Cost for materials was less than 6 bucks (at my LHS which is a known rip off) and that was for 4 rods, when I needed less than one to make them. The plans are accurate as long as you print full size.

This is an essential mod before you even test the bird out to be honest

I'm guessing you already tried softer landings?
Jazzhjohn has a gcp setup with a gear and canopy that you could take into any battle you might encounter including trees etc. since I know for a fact he has tested it that way several times! After he reads this he may reveal his stealthy armored bird design.
(Unless DARPA won't let him reveal it yet...)

Common problem though. Suggest you start by getting a hot-glue gun since that tool can by you months of practice on a fractured frame too. You will use it eventually even if you do the Jazzjohn mods.

thanks guys for the input.. this is the 3rd frame that i have to purchase now...
its not a matter of hovering or landing soft.. i can fly without crashing ( if i fly normal)
but im trying to learn a little 3d.. thats the problem..-- and the damn tail blows out all the time.. screws me up....

i guess its still cheaper than buying stuff for for my bigger heli's...

i did a little research- and found people are using the frame from the mini cp..--Any of you guys have done this?

I have made a carbon fibre plate that fits to the bottom of the frame and made 2 aluminium blocks that screw to the main frame and carbon fibre to mount the mini cp skids. It was not a quick or easy mod but I like the Idea of if I break the skids in the field again I can just pull off and replace. If anyone would like pics ect I can post tomorrow as its late here

Firstly I cut the old broken legs and the battery tray from the frameand filed the bottom of the frame flat. I then covered the carbon fibre with masking tape. The carbon fibre is 1.2mm i drilled and filed a hole so the lip of the main bearing holder will fit snuggly in the hole I then used a scalple (exacto I think its called in USA) to scribe the lines through the main frame onto the masking tape I then marked out an extra 30mm x 25mm for the receiver tray. All shaping and drilling was done with a Dremel and diamond engraving bits. The aluminium blocks were cut from a strip of 3mm x 10mm aluminium the blocks were cut to 3mm x 5mm x 22mm. I drilled the holes for the skids 2mm on the 3mm wide side of the blocks. The front of the main frame where the receiver tray screws in were opened up big enough for 12BA screws to go through to the front block. The Blocks were drilled and tapped out to 12BA. Behind the rear block I used to countersunk screws to go through the frame and screw into the carbon fibre to secure the 2 together. With the frame screwed to the carbon fibre I then drilled 2 holes for the 12BA screws to go through to mount the rear block, the holes were drilled in where the 2 big holes are in the back of the main frame. The blocks were then screwed on the front being drilled through both the main frame and carbon fibre and the rear just through the carbon fibre. I have since filed the front block height down to 4mm from the original 5mm this now gives the tail blade an extra 7-8mm ground clearance for uneven ground. If anyone needs anything answered do please ask. I hope you find it an interesting mod cheers Lee

I probably had my gcp an hour before I broke the skids, hot glue has held it together since then. The frame benefits from some added stiffness imo.

If replacing the frame, one option is converting to the mini cp frame. The conversion is possible even for a novice and sees benefits from the updated design. The biggest issue is mounting the receiver vertically, I just attached the rx tray to the frame. Fits inside canopy, seems unprotected, consider adding some type of crash shielding.
