Found a wrecked B400 for sale locally for $20. Came with a GY401 and Hitech65 servos, so I couldnt go wrong with the purchase. Also got a bunch of spares with the sale.

I spent a couple of weekends tearing it down, replacing all of the broken parts, and rebuilding it from the ground up. Needed a new tail servo, esc, feathering shaft, tail boom, canopy, main and tail blades.

Took a long time getting the servos centered, swash level, and transmitter programming correct. It is now all put back together and hovers very nicely. Just waiting for the 2' of snow to melt so I can head to the field to take it for a flight.

Who else is still flying these birds? Im planning to fly it as is, keep it from crashing, and sport flying it as I save up for a Align 470LP.

First two photos are from before the rebuild, second are after.

Isn’t that a 450, instead of a 400?

Looking closely I think it is a 400.

The head grips look like ones off a 400, and the tail support mounts are on the landing skid mounts. Weren't they moved on to the side of the frame for the 450?

I'm about to go fly mine, albeit it isn't really a 400 anymore.

450X FBL Head
CF blades
Savox 0257MG servos
BeastX Plus V4.2
KBDD tail blades
Trex 500 landing skids

Not flown it since I converted it to FBL - maiden today hopefully!

Your heli looks real nice !

Good luck on the flight Beserkr!

It is a B400. Had to buy a 450 canopy since the B400 ones are near impossible to find.

Best of luck with the B400. I have several and enough parts to last the rest of my lifetime. One of the hardest parts to find anymore is the main shaft.

I hope the maiden goes well Beserkr

Thanks for the well wishes - the heli gods must have heard you as my first session with it went swimmingly.

https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...51#post8256951

I have a dozen or so main shafts - I may well part way with these since they're useless with the 450X head and would be selfish to keep hold of hen's teeth when I'm not going to use them.

Luckily 450X parts are much easier to get hold of...

BD I have a question...

Do you think it's possible advisable to remove the lower pushrod from the elevator servo, or does it definitely need both?

I ask as the pitch servo can bind on it and I've had to limit my servo travel and it's robbing me of rotation rate I'd like...

Glad to hear your flight went well!

I will have to stock up on parts when I can find them. I do have two main shafts, but no more feathering shafts in my parts backlog. My main frame is a bit worse for wear, had to epoxy two of the landing gear mounts back onto the frame during the rebuild.

The plan is to fly this bird gingerly and with care not to crash since some of the parts are a challenge to find. I have a Blade 230s for tossing around.

Cheers!

If you really get stuck for shafts I can see about posting you some from across the pond...

Thanks! I will keep that in mind, but I hope my two spares last me a while since I will be careful when flying the b400.

Question Blade 400 Newbie

[QUOTE=badblackz24

Who else is still flying these birds? Im planning to fly it as is, keep it from crashing, and sport flying it as I save up for a Align 470LP.

Hi Guys,

I have been flying for a couple of years (mainly Micro`s). I`m following John Salts flight school Helicopterfun.com, learning to fly a Blade 400,
I own several with lots of spares! I`m also putting in a lot of Sim time.

Can anyone please let me know if I raise my throttle value at mid-stick from its current 70% to say 90% will it be more stable in windier conditions? I`m trying all I can to gain stability to prevent crashes whilst learning.

Many Thanks

Yes, in general when you raise the headspeed the helicopter will become more stable, but you will have extra snappy collective and cyclic response as well.

@Blade 400 3d

Are you still using the stock wooden blades? If so, a set of 315-335mm carbon fibre blades will really increase stability.
