Forza 450 servo gears
Crashed my Forza 450 into a tree and stripped some servo gears, does any one know who might stock servo gear sets for the JR FBL-DS21 servos? Thanks.

Hey datatools
Were you able to successfully change the gears in your ds21 servos? I stripped 2 of mine out last week. I ordered and installed new gears, just got the gear sets with the 2 metal gears in them. I installed the new gears but still couldn't get the servos to work properly. It seems as if the tiny white plastic gear is able to disengage from the drive pinion. Seems like it shouldn't be able to move up on its shaft the way that mine can. Just wondered if you ran into any problems when you replaced your gears. |

Hi iflymatt
I too had slight weirdness with gears in the DS21s. I stripped two servos in a crash and sent off for the gears. I haven't noticed any issue with the tiny plastic gear you mention but when i replaced the big final gear, it was very hard to get it onto the shaft, in both servos. I noticed that the inside/ underneath the metal gear is plastic with the hole for the shaft. Guessed that when new they are pretty tight and loosen up with time.. i hope so, because if i strip them again i've no idea how i'll get the stripped gear off if it is still so tight as when it went on! The other weirdness was that the third servo, which i'm pretty sure was the one that was unscathed in the crash, then went bad on me. After the crash i stripped it down, checked it and re- greased. I then manually moved it carefully and didn't feel any binding. But when connected up it behaved very weirdly, making binding noise and first not moving enough in response to stick input, then eventually slowly travelling down (continuing after stick input). When i went to move it back up, the horn had changed its position on its arc of movement, if that makes sense. What must have been happening inside was that the final gear (with the plastic inside, that was much easier to take off in this servo's case) was slipping on the shaft. So i wondered whether it was possible that in removing the gears to check and clean i had managed to enlarge the hole that the shaft fits into, therefore making the final gear too loose on its shaft. Have you had any of this malarkey? Meanwhile the two servos whose gear i replaced, plus one i ordered to replace the weird behaving one are now all back on the bird and all behaving fine. |

Revitalising an old thread... but I'm having a problem with actually getting the last gear off of the potentiometer's shaft. Does anyone have any ideas?

The shaft is probably bent. I'm pretty sure the gears should just slide off. The gear with the bearing has an inner plastic bushing that is pressed onto the shaft, but you should be able to pull it off with your fingers.

I went with JR 287MG's in my Forza 450.
Very, very precise, nice and quick, and I have piled the poor machine in two or three times now and have not damaged a gear of servo case. Very tough servos.

Stock cyclic servos - pros and cons
I'd be embarrassed to say how many times I've piled it in and had to replace cyclic servo gears. My ONLY gripe with this otherwise fantastic heli is that the DFC head combined with the super rigid CNC servo arms transmit so much force to the servo in a crash that the gears are going to break. The upside, though, is the brilliantly easy, fast and foolproof system for setting up level swash and 90 degree servo arms.
I always need to replace the F gear, sometimes the E gear, never once any other gear, so I just stock up on ITEM JR-70744 (at RC Japan) or JRPSG970744 (at JR Americas) which includes just those two gears. After all >>> <<< of those gear replacements, though, the original stock servos still work perfectly. |

I just use the JR plastic servo arms.
While they do not have the infinite adjustment of the metal arms, they are a sacrificial part. I did break a plastic arm in the last crash, but no servo gears.

I wouldn't assume the shaft is bent. The plastic bushing in the F gear (the big one with the bearing) is always very tight on the shaft, making it difficult, and sometimes impossible, to get on or off with just fingers. I usually have to pry it off (gently!) and use a vise or large channel locks to (GENTLY!) press it on.

Got some but haven't tried them yet. Had trouble finding them, finally ended up ordering them from FastLad in the UK. I will give them a try if I ever crash again.

For me it is common to have to replace the gear B after a crash, the servo rotates in the otherwise empty.
if not, well saved the servo, just tighten by holding the screwdriver with your fingertips and do not overtighten. We have several crash them in the same day or stolen and never breaks. (Google translation, sorry) |
